Tesla considering smaller compact pickup truck (baby Cybertruck?)

Tesla's engineering VP, Lars Moravy, said during X takeover event that Tesla has "always talked about making a smaller pickup."

Just how concrete is the possibility of a baby Cybertruck? Moravy said in the interview that they have "definitely been churning in the design studio about what we might do to serve that need for sure."

As discussed in the other thread, it would be more like what Gus posted as they do not have a roadmap for any additional SS vehicles, even in concept. They do have plans to use 48v and SBW in the future.

To put that number into perspective, in 2024, Tesla sold around 40,000 Cybertrucks in the US and Canada combined. Sales dropped during the first half of 2025.

So 420,000 per year would be an order-of-magnitude increase over the Cybertruck's best year. It's possible that a smaller pickup could sell globally (not just in North America), but even so, skepticism seems warranted.

The Truckla was a modified 2018 Model 3. The Model Y would probably be a better platform for a small pickup, but it wasn't available until 2020.

The recently announced Model YL is 195.9 inches long. If the Model Y platform could be stretched another 4 inches, it would match the Ford Maverick, which is 199.7 inches long.

The forthcoming Slate is only 174.6 inches long, but the pickup configuration only has two doors and two seats.
