Some might have already seen from greentheonly that Tesla has requested a confidentiality extension on their new radar which appears to be from Israeli tech company ARBE Robotics.

Apparently the request is to keep it confidential until the product is "marketed in mid January", maybe that's why we have seen camo model 3's popping up on social media.

Also if the radar is from ARBE Robotics, their videos seem to make me think the radar will be able to pick up "some terrain variations" if used in off road situation for adjusting the CT dampening on the fly. (thats me just speculating).

who knows maybe it'll be a CT re-re-reveal in mid Jan.

That ARBE promo video shows just how difficult it is to interpret the data from the radar. Without the video feed you would have no idea what objects the radar signals represent, and which parts of the echo are noise. Not very useful in my opinion.

But for off road terrain mapping...hmmm. Maybe it would allow the vehicle recognize rocks and dips... poorly.

The only benefits of radar are relative velocity measurement, and peering through fog/rain/snow. The cost is massive amounts of ambiguous noise. I bet the overall quality of FSD goes down if radar is included in everyday driving.

I am super intrigued by the mid January date.

How about the car uses the cams until it decides the fog/rain/snow is heavy enough that the radar becomes useful and temporarily relies on radar for an second or two, or three, and then returns to the use of the cams? Best of both worlds.
