Ford is fucked. They lost 36k on every ev they sold last year. Let’s revisit in 2030. Rivian still can’t build their current models in meaningful volume, they can design as many new things as they want and it won’t matter because they can’t make them much less make them at a profit as they’re losing over $1b per quarter. Superchargers are about to become a much larger profit center for Tesla. Opening the standard and the network are both wins as they will draw more consumers to the brand as more people come in contact with the superior architecture.
Ford isn’t fucked. They didn’t fail in the 2008 crash and they won’t fail in the future. EV trucks may never be a money maker for them but ICE trucks aren’t going away anytime soon and the F150 ICE is the king.

Retail BEV truck towing is a problem yet to be solved.

The primary reason people are afraid to buy other EVs is range anxiety. Getting everyone on the supercharger network will basically eliminate that. Although you'll have wait time anxiety.

So because Rivian doesn't make trucks super fast they will go bankrupt? I'm sure they're constantly improving.

If you said lucid I would be with you. Maybe even Toyota. But Ford is one of the few companies who make compelling EVs and rivians big reveal might be their model 3 moment

We have to take off our lemming cap and try to set down our biases. Tesla will likely always be EV king but why drive people away if you can avoid it? I mean we see people in this thread cancelling.

People aren't buying non Tesla EV's because the products are overpriced garbage without a reliable charging network. Even with access to the SC network they're still overpriced and or garbage. BYD is the only true competitor.

Lucid isn't long for this world. Rivian is losing money at such a rate that they'll follow along in short order or be absorbed by someone else. -110% profit margins just don't work.

Ford will be reduced to an HD Truck company by 2030. GM and Stellantis will be irrelevant or gone. Toyota is actually the most likely to survive as they are the only OEM aggressively moving towards the Tesla unboxed manufacturing philosophy (google Joe Justice for more info).

I spend all day every day researching this stuff. It's how I retired at 43 yo in 2016.

It's a global world for even the squirrels. We all have to compete for the proverbial nut. Yet most say BYD what?

I really don't need help understanding Tesla and their prospective manufacturing methodologies.

You're really just regurgitating the talking points that Elon has been floating around.

Look at the actual pricing. Dual motor R1T starts at 69.9k today. And has very similar specs to the 100k Cybertruck AWD.

I'm not in the game of believing the PowerPoints Tesla puts out anymore. Who knows how long it will take to get the unboxed method working. Seems simple on paper. But that's how they made CT manufacturing sound to. And 4680.

At the end of the day, just because we think Tesla has a superior product. Doesn't mean other companies will fail. Like RJ said, they don't need CT to flop for Rivian to succeed.

Obviously the Chinese invasion will be huge and have an impact, but that's if it ever actually starts in the US. And even if you consider that. Doesn't having more brand loyalty make that less of a threat to Tesla? Driving away potentially life long customers gives other companies that customer. Whether it's Ford, rivian, byd, vinfast, what have you, it's not Tesla at that point and that's what matters.

All for a drop of influencer clout.

We'll know soon enough how it plays out, but my money is literally where my mouth is on this.

As for the guy that canceled his order and forfeited the money....good for him. Hope he's content with that choice. Probably the better financial decision anyway as the FS CT is literally like burning $40k for FOMO when you factor current interest rates (assuming he was financing) and resale values that will be falling like rocks as production ramps and pricing falls. I'm looking forward to getting my VIN and taking delivery regardless.

This might be more common than people think. A person can only be jerked around for so long. Lots of vehicles out there to choose from. And prices are getting much better.
The rep literally hung up on me. He said they don't give refunds and he would cancel the order, I can't cancel in the app but the order still shows it's made? He kept saying I wasn't correct about the speedy delivery with points thing, he claimed that no one has any guarantees on delivery..he finally googled it and then said.... but "Washington hasn't had any deliveries, this doesn't guarantee delivery in 45 days" I'm not even in Washington...he wasn't helpful at all.

I've always owned Cadillac, I can pick up a Lyriq tomorrow, with a tax incentive for way less and more features actually available at delivery..not to be announced later.

I have stuck behind Elon and the CT for 4 years, it's crazy to think you can leave customers in the dark who have already paid, while offering others a chance for guaranteed delivery, I was just asking for a realistic delivery date and couldn't get even that. I'm just thankful I didn't pay the full down payment like some, who are stuck with their cash held hostage. I want my deposit back for the lack of communication on their end, I understand delays, but if they can guarantee delivery for some extra points then they clearly have some control delaying my delivery.

I bought a home on the other side of the country 2 months before the CT offer came, I was set to be here for 3 more months so I made the order here, because they said for sure by February...Here we are and it doesn't look promising. They have told me I can't move my location due to there not being a dealer, and then because it wasn't possible due to the taxes and fees already being calculated...the answer has never been consistent. Also as I mentioned their credit pull, which I later was told wasn't necessary until I had the VIN caused my credit to drop and now that offer has expired. Those hard pulls stay for years. That 1% interest difference is a lot when we are talking 60k.

Delays are understandable, I'm ok getting an updated truck.
This is a 1st world problem, but I finally snapped. I wasn't upset until the whole "jump the line" thing came along and I've officially been waiting 60 days with Zero updates. The seemingly took down the VIN tracker, so it's like they are purposely keeping us in the dark.

Couldn't miss the chance to virtue signal on your way out, huh?
Hell no I couldn't! I want others to know they aren't alone. I'm not the only one, and no one cares. I just wanted to vent...

Oh I didn’t even realize they took down the vin tracker. How??

So now are we kind of guessing based on assigned vins people post online?
