Again, Speed: AWD Specific

I’ve got an AWD ordered and am waiting for a VIN (hopefully any day now). My question is for those who own the AWD version. For those coming from a regular vehicle in particular, but for all in general.

Is the acceleration of the AWD CyberTruck for you a “WOW!” factor? I’ve only driven a 2023 Model S standard model for a test drive. No other Tesla experience. To me, it had a ”WOW!” acceleration. And I know the AWD is a slight bit slower (although a much larger vehicle). So will the AWD version give me a similar “Wow!” feeling?

Well, I have a Performance Model 3, and while my Cybertruck doesn't push me back into the seat nearly as hard, it's almost as impressive feeling, because the truck is so much bigger, heavier and higher off the ground. I only floor it when I want to launch as fast as possible. In regular traffic situations, even merging into fast traffic, I only press it about 1/2 way to the floor and that's about all most passengers want to feel as well. Anything more just feels like you're showing off.

Here's a story that illustrates it. I let my friend drive it. After he felt comfortable, and we were on a safe, straight road I told him to floor it. We were going about 15 mph. He accelerated strongly up to about 60 mph and let off, and looked over at me with a serious/concerned look on his face and said, "And that was only halfway".

He still wanted to try to floor it all the way, and the next try he did, up to about 60 mph where he let off. He looked over at me impressed, saying something like, "I knew these things were supposed to be fast, but that was something else." I said, "Yeah, and I didn't even buy the fastest model. He jerked his head towards me, eyes wide open with a surprised look and said incredulously, "You mean they make an even faster one?" Ha-ha, yes, they do!

So, it's all a matter of perspective, he's floored my Performance Model 3 a few years back too, but you don't expect it in such a big truck. IMO, it's faster than you want for anything short of racing or showing off. And I didn't buy it for either.

If you are under 6 foot tall and have ego issues give Tesla an extra 20 to feed your ego.

But not for ego (believe it or not).
My 16 year-old granddaughter and I test drove a Model S standard model just before my opportunity to order was offered. Wasn’t expecting the opportunity, so I was very happy when it unexpectedly hit my inbox! But I digress. Anyway, I drove it and she was in the passenger’s seat. After accelerating fast a few times just to see what it was capable of, we both had such big grins on our face because we didn’t expect it to feel like THAT!
I turned to her and asked her if it was as good as a roller coaster ride, and she said oh yeah! Point being, the speed, although maybe seldom used, is for the pure FUN of it to me. She was with us over Spring Break. When she went back, I asked her what was the most fun thing we did. She said test driving (me actually driving) the Tesla. ?
But always drive responsibly, of course.
With regard to ego, I’m a 65 year-old retired guy. What do I have to prove to anybody at this point? ?

But my Model 3 standard is still pretty zippy at 5.8 so we (well I am) are just splitting hairs.

While we wait!!! COME ON ELON! Build 'em faster!!!!

Really, $20K is not the same to everyone. I'm not very price sensitive and would have happily forked out another $20K on top of the Foundation premium to get it sooner. To a lot of people $20K really matters. Luckily, Tesla said the Dual Motor was first!

The Tri Motor does have torque vectoring on the rear axle, I might buy one in the future just for that alone! I do enjoy squirting out of lonely rural corners in my Model 3, as if I'm racing, but it becomes increasingly more environmentally impacting when the tires are as big as the Cybertrucks (tires are made from oil). That takes some of the joy out of it for me.

I’ve read a few things saying the AWD has been measured at 3.8 even though rated at 4.1. Can anyone verify this?

I have 0 issues with the speed of awd very happy with it

You won’t. I also have a Model Y performance and the wife has a Model Y LR 7 with AB.
Something about the size and weight of the truck doesn’t make sense with the torque and speed, in a good way.

I am willing to bet down the line there will also be a software unlock for a faster 0-60 “acceleration boost”.

That’d be interesting if they could do that with the acceleration. So you don’t think it’s maxed out (or very close) due to hardware?

I have a model S Plaid and think the AWD has a great wow! Especially up against my turbo charged V6 Raptor. Getting 7,000 lbs moving to 60 in 4.1 is awesome! No need for the Tri Motor IMO.
