Any theory why the driver window raises slightly when opened?

Every video I’ve seen of the truck that shows the door being opened or closed with the window completely lowered, shows the window slightly raise until the door is closed. I’ve never seen this behavior in a vehicle before and can’t quite figure out why it might be doing that. It’s definitely intentional and not a fluke. My only thought is if there’s some geometry with the window and motor that make it likely to break if someone slams the door while it’s completely lowered.

Any other theories or factual information out there?

It’s a frameless door. The window glass drops down a little when open. Once closed it moves up to seal the gap. Otherwise the glass can break hitting the car frame. The emergency mechanical latch doesn’t do this and you get a warning on the screen to not slam the door. Pretty much all Teslas do this as far as I know.

This is the opposite of what I’m referring to. I’m asking about when the window is fully DOWN and the door is opened.

Do you have a video of this?

28:47 and pretty much all the rest of the deliveries. There are other videos posted on this forum where I’ve noticed it as well.

So he can’t open the door from the outside with the window down is what you are saying?

It starts out all the way down, when the door latch button is pressed it raises a little, then when the door is closed again the window goes back down all the way.

I've noticed this as well, where the top point of the window juts out when the door is open. Odd!

Maybe "steel ball defense mode"...?

interesting. Would suggest that it tucks in behind the door frame a little when fully down just like it does when fully up.

My guess is that with the shape of the top of the window coming to a point, the glass isn't sufficiently held stable with the window all the way down. It needs to raise itself up into the sill for wider contact before the door is slammed shut. If only the peak of the window was touching the felt/rubber seal, the window may either rattle, like Kahpernicus suggested, or it might even come out of its slot at the top and wedge under the door seal, unable to roll up again!

I'm guessing it's because when it's all the way down only the pointy bit at the top of the glass is in contact with the top seal and could rattle around, so they roll it up a bit to damp that.
like @Kahpernicus mentioned.
