Apple shortcuts / automations

I am a new Tesla owner, the cyber truck is my first Tesla.

I’ve been banging my head on the wall, trying to figure out how to schedule my truck to charge between certain hours at night when I get power for free. Searched all the forums and Reddit. Chances are some of you have had this frustration as well.

Then I realized I had seen default Tesla shortcuts loaded into my Apple shortcuts app. Sure enough I can set a shortcut to start and stop my charging. And then I can set an automation to enable those shortcuts at any time of day. I tried it out last night and it worked like a champ.

Anybody else doing anything cool with Apple shortcuts and or automations?

The CT “dashboard” display has an option to start charging based on your calendar schedule or at a specific time. I typically start charging at midnight. Go to the charge section on the CT display. You do not need to use an Apple shortcut app to do this. You can adjust the ending total charge to control the stop charging time. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip! I do start the charge using the built in feature, but there is no way to end at a certain time, as far as I can tell. I prefer a precise end time rather than adjusting the total charge and hoping it matches what I want. Hence the shortcut.

I don’t have my CT yet but my Tesla app certainly allows me to enter a scheduled daily or weekday departure time and it will charge in the night to be ready for that departure time. It will set the HVAC accordingly, too.

I use the action button on the side of my iPhone 15 Pro Max to unlock the truck (the CT specific locking sound is really cool IMO). The iOS Shortcuts app is really powerful

I'm just curious why you would need a action to unlock the vehicle? Teslas are the first car where I have completely forgotten about the concept of locking and unlocking the vehicle. I only have to think about it when I'm picking someone up and I have to unlock the passenger door so they can get in.

My F-150 lightning came close but occasionally it wouldn't detect my phone which was felt like a much more jarring experience than it actually was.

No no no, it’s not a need - I just love making it make the sound and the light sweep haha

I use the action button on both my watch and phone to turn the AC on inside the truck….amazingly convenient

Can’t you just create shortcut to set charge limit to 80% at the time free charging starts and another charge limit to less than that when the free charging is over?
