I noticed from my demo drive, that auto drive/reverse gear selection is not activated yet on CT.
Is this because AP/FSD is not active?
If so, can we expect this as a feature to be added?

The 3-point turn auto select isn't available, yet (on mine anyway), but shift out of park is there and has been since I received my truck. Maybe it was turned off.

The full auto gear selector is only available on limited cars to my knowledge. I have FSD 12.4.3 on my Model S and it doesn't have it, yet I know someone with 12.3.6 on theirs and they do. Not sure why.

I haven't tried mine yet in the auto gear select. Knowing how close it is after parking in the garage, I'm somewhat paranoid that it'll accidentally switch to the wrong gear and I will run into the wall.
I've been using it for about 2 years. I think it's been wrong maybe 5 times, but almost never with a large wall in front of me. Typically with a short curb or something. Just because it shifts into gear, doesn't mean it automatically goes that way. You still need to hit the go pedal.

I tried using (Auto Shift), but sometimes it will shift into drive even though I need reverse due to something in front of the truck.. Doesn't seem safe enough to me to use daily
It's absolutely safe, you just shouldn't assume that it is always going to guess what you want.
Just look at it after you put your foot on the brake and see if you agree.
For probably 90% of the time, it's going to guess right and you don't have to put it in gear.
For the 10%, you just slide it the other way.

But you absolutely need to confirm it before moving foot to accelerator.
I've used it for 3 months with no issues.

Knowing myself, I’d get used to trusting it and end up in my living room on the 0.01% of it making a mistake.

For me it was a completely automatic reaction to check. I think that it just replaces the "put it in gear" action that normally occurs.

The auto-select has failed only a couple of times for me, but it's usually obvious when it does. When reverse is selected, the cameras will display.

If I think "hey where's my backup view" then I know I'm in the wrong gear lol

Hi, my understanding is that this feature needs to be turned on in the driver profile. I know that at least for my first demo drive, there wasn't really a profile, so I would have needed to go in, update the profile to activate the auto-shift-out-of-park feature. The wife has a drive this week and then me a day later (yes, the tesla employees know that I'm going to be coming back to drive it until I get my pickup).

I was going to try it on my next drive. Will let you know if I think of it.

I use it all the time! It’s great! Just another Tesla only feature that I have come accustomed too. Makes everything else look like amateur hour!

For those worried about it going in to the wrong gear it tells you what gear it is going to select after you put your seatbelt on. It will say tap break for drive or something like that. I always look to see what it is going to do and watch it go in to gear to make sure it is correct. Since May it has been “wrong” a couple times when I was parked in such a way it couldn’t see the parking spot concert parking block I pulling up to and was under the front tires. I love the feature and the auto shift to park when talking the seatbelt off. The auto shift to park is going to get me in a rental some day :)

I’m surprised all Teslas don’t have almost identical functionality. For example, the CT turn signals cancel after changing lanes, my M3 does not unless it is in FSD. It is minor, but I love the auto cancel on the CT.

Don't worry about it during a test drive. It only works when you would first place in drive or reverse and depending on how the truck is parked, it may not choose correctly.

There's a lot more interesting things to test, like automatically turning off the turn signal when changing lanes only after you are in the new lane.

And there's always a profile in effect, yes, it's a beta feature and must be turned on. There are a lot of things that are worth looking at on the menu.
