No need to add FSD. Autopark is included with normal autopilot. I borrowed a Tesla a couple years ago. Auropark did not work very well back then.
Autopark is currently part of the FSD package per the Tesla website. Autopilot is more like advanced cruise control.

My thought is if it is a legal spot and you park with in the lines then it becomes the other guys problem. Now being the other guy. I just open my door until it contacts the other car and I squeeze out. I try not to damage either car but it is the cost of parking in an urban setting. No paint to scratch on the CT. So we are good.
Although i agree with you about it being the other guys problem, what i told the Model X owner was did he really want his $120K car damaged by a $20K car and have it in the shop and out of commission for 3 weeks just to be right. I get my car scratched there all the tome, by total dick heads, and I am so looking forward to not caring with the CT, but I was trying to describe a rationale where auto park isn't as great as one might otherwise think.

I dream of this ability. But I have to say, the first time I do it will be terrifying as all get out. I may need to have it let me out somewhere that I can get picked up in a follow car so I can watch everything it does till I learn to trust it.

I will certainly be wanting it to work though. I really hate valet parking but really want the benefits of valet parking.
Totally agree with that sentiment. We got invited into the FSD beta last week and I have tested it twice so far and I have to say that what it does well it does reslly well, and what it doesn't do well it doesn't handle at all (like any orange warning signs). Most of all, it is really, really stressful driving that way, with your hands always at the ready, and it will take a lot for me to trust it.

Just to be clear... I think (I could be wrong) we are conflating multiple things into the phase "autopark".

What the OP described, where he gets out of the car and it pulls itself into a spot is what I thought was called "Summon mode", or, more correctly "reverse summon mode".

Autopark is a feature almost all high end, many medium range and even a few low end vehicles have where you tell it to park (usually parallel, some also offer backing into perpendicular spots) and it takes control of the steering and tells you to shift, move, or brake. Some even take control of the moving and braking. (Guessing Tesla does this).

My Jeep has Park Assist (autopark). It works "ok". The only reason I use it is because I'm lazy and I like having it spin the steering wheel from stop to stop when parking. It spins it surprisingly fast and is fun to watch.

Right now, Autopark is like letting your grandmother drive, except slower.
I only have one experience with auto park, on the receiving end. :(

The owner of a 2017 Model S decided to to try it out for the first time next to the spot where our Model 3 was parked.

Total bill was $2500 for a new front fender and bumper skirt. And insurance didn't agree with Tesla's "replace vs paint" approach, so I ended up $900 out of pocket.

Just park the d*mn thing yourself. Chances are you need the exercise. :)

It is all about the squeeze factor. I don't mind the walk. I just want to be able to to get out first before the pinch. (The last 20 feet)
