Over the weekend I shredded my Cybertruck out on the sand dunes. On one of my first runs, I shelved the truck on the top of a dune, with front driver's tire dangling in the air. I quick tug from a nearby Bronco got me out, no problem. Normal day on the dunes!

Immediately afterwards, my front differential wouldn't lock, and it remained unusable for quite some time. It was completely greyed out on my display, even after 100+ miles of additional driving (on road).

There were are no errors in service mode. The truck did NOT report an unknown differential position. There was no differential error in off-road mode.

Here's the solution:
  • Go into off road mode
  • Drive in circles - several times
  • Drive straight for 100-200ft
  • Drive left and right (lock to lock) several times in a row
  • Do these again but mix it up (circle right, then left & right a few times, another u-turn, drive straight, etc.)
  • Park the truck and reboot.
That should fix it. At least it did for me. It must take some time for the Cybertruck to recognize the actual position of the differential, especially after being parked or having the wheels spun in the air.

Posting this in case anybody else has the issue!

That is a great pic! a whole other way of getting "stuck" in the sand!

So IIRC the differential locking is only available in Off Road mode?
I assume you moved it back to normal mode and somehow that didn't unlock the differentials? how did you even know for sure that they were still locked?

The rear locker is available on-road next to the traction control settings, and both the front and back are available with off-road mode.

And yes I went back to on-road mode after getting off the dunes for the day— the truck didn't squeal the tires when I turned so I assumed it was disengaged when the option was greyed out. Hope that helps haha
