Back on April 24th, 2025, I was sitting at my computer at 11:15PM, just surfing the web, likely even this very forum, when the left half of my body from the top of my head to the bottom of my toes went numb instantly. Not paralyzed, just numb. Freaked me out.

The very first thing I did was ask Grok what it could be. It told me (correctly, it turns out) that it could be a transient ischemic attack and to go to the hospital immediately.

My wife drove me to the hospital, and on the way, the numbness went away 10 minutes after it started. I asked Grok again, it re-iterated a likely TIA and to continue to the hospital.

A CT scan, MRI, and host of other tests later during a 2.5 day hospital stay confirmed the TIA and a slight thinning of the vertebral arteries in the back right of my head. Thankfully, I had no lasting cognitive or physical issues from the episode and I'm doing incredibly well now.

But Grok was right, and it may have saved my life by sending me immediately to the hospital, and by encouraging me to continue there after the numbness went away.

First. Very sorry that happened to you and I sincerely hope you’ve had a thorough workup looking for reversible causes and been placed on an appropriate risk reduction regimen and being considered for any appropriate risk reduction procedures.
If there is anything I can do to help you in terms of connecting you with the right people, please reach out privately. I’d be happy to help.
Respectfully, that didn’t require advice from Grok to know it needed immediate medical attention. If you told me otherwise I’d seriously worry about your safety. Who would choose to ignore complete sensory loss on an entire side of the body?
What likely could have saved your life was rapid response from you and your wife, not a cursory diagnosis from Grok. Fortunately you had enough common sense to go right away.
In fact, diagnosing you with a TIA rather than a stroke without any sort of imaging or neurological exam is exactly the kind of thing I worry about grok doing.
There is a certain subset of people that would say, “well, grok said TIA and not stroke, I’ll just got to sleep” and those people could potentially miss the window for treating a stroke with thrombolytics or endovascular intervention which would be incredibly unfortunate and lead to reversible problems becoming permanent disability.
Glad you’re ok. Please hear me on this, if you don’t trust it to find you a supercharger, definitely don’t trust it with your health.
I’m not against personal technology in healthcare. The Apple Watch has revolutionized the management of multiple conditions like Afib and COPD, but AI is not ready for healthcare consumer use yet. Not by a long shot

Thanks, man, much appreciated. I'm not suggesting that LLMs should replace competent medical personnel and you're correct that I would not rely on one to diagnose a serious medical condition - the important part for me was that it emphatically told me to go to the hospital.

As I'm sure isn't news to anyone, it's very easy to brush off events like this and just ignore it as a fluke if the symptoms subside relatively quickly, as they did in my case. One things us humans are good at is lying to ourselves and rationalizing away things we don't want to face.

My condition was exacerbated (possibly even triggered) by uncontrolled diabetes. When I went into that emergency room on April 24th, my A1C was 13. Insane, and completely untreated because I didn't want to face it. Very, very stupid on my part.

Since that day, I went strict carnivore and haven't had a drop of any liquid other than water. As of August 18th, my A1C is 5.7 and I've lost 65lbs., and my Labcorp panels are literally perfect across the board. Grok helped me with my diet plan :)

I'm 53 years old, my wife is 32 and my daughter is 9. If that TIA had turned into a stroke, as they often do, I might not be here for them. Take care of yourselves, people. Don't wait for a wake-up call like I foolishly did.

Again. Just glad to hear you’re ok. Sounds like you have a good understanding of how to reduce your risk moving forward.
Wish you nothing but the best.

Will this be counted in the deliveries in the next earnings report?

...I'll see myself out.
