I got a Brookstone folding stool for $13 and found it to be much safer than feeling for a hidden bumper under the tailgate when getting out of the bed. Normally it's stored in the under bed storage container, but when I have the bed full, I pull it out and make it accessible near the tailgate. You can also use it to help you reach over the side of the bed where it gets closer to the cabin.

Maybe try a handle like this attached to an l-track tie-down. https://a.co/d/fAPUebE

I also have problems getting in and out of the truck easily. No good handholds and no good step points.

Seems like what would be really useful is some sort of fold out step that you could attach to the inside of the tailgate that could unfold when the tailgate is down. Now I am aware of the big stair contraptions that can be bolted to the inside of the rear tailgate and unfolded to the side, but they seem to have the issue of blocking the ability to slide things out and they require it to be bolted to the inside wall.
If someone made something that could clamp the to the top edge of the tailgate door and a step would unfold that seems like it would ideal as it would give a step, but would also be easy to remove when not needed.

But as long as we're doing that, why not bolt the moto peg to the L-track?

My big question is how does the peg make it so I can actually lift my leg up to reach the tailgate?
Maybe I can pull myself on to the tailgate on my stomach and then roll over. Hmm.

Hey Elon! How about us old guys? Give us a step already.

I've got some stuff going on that's gonna nuke my next 10 days or so. If nobody beats me to it, I'll pull the trigger after that. Well, even if somebody DOES beat me to it, I'll pull the trigger then. ;)

Your mileage may vary: I can get a foot up on the side of the tailgate w/o issue (it's a little lower there). Then, with a handhold, I can readily ascend to the gate and bed without have to sit on the gate, swing my legs over and stand up ... and hope nobody sees me doing this old man shit ...

I’ll pig out Guinea style. Anyone got links for that bolt and motorcycle peg?

I don't see that one, but Amazon has a few.
This one looks interesting with the long arm, perhaps it would be easier to anchor securely vs the smaller one.
