Maybe jaded , but that was staged AF.
I didn’t wanna be the one to say it (which is why I didn’t comment on the actual content). But, I don’t disagree with you, Debbie Downer.

The crazy thing is his scooter is electric ?
Imagine if personal mobility scooters had gas engines! The first EV commercial I ever saw was this:

It really got me thinking how ridiculous it is that our society has normalized having hundreds of thousands of personal transport devices with internal combustion engines plugging up our cities and how nice urban areas will become when all cars and trucks are clean, quiet electric vehicles.

On an unrelated note, it's funny how quiet all the advocates for hydrogen powered cars have become! Lobbyists for oil companies took a sudden turn away from hydrogen, which would have cemented dependence upon oil companies (because brown hydrogen is much cheaper than green hydrogen) and towards hybrids (which will just delay the transition away from internal combustion).

Hydrogen never made sense because even brown hydrogen was already much more expensive than BEV and dirtier than gasoline. What were they thinking? (cue the lone hydrogen supporter)

eh, staged or played up or not, it's still pretty wholesome.
Check out his Waymo videos. The deaf man seems to really get it after a while.

ā€œPlayed upā€ is a more apt description and I agree with you entirely. Which is why I decided I was not going to comment on it and ruin the fun wholesome vibe.

That's funny, I had a similar experience, when it was first revealed in 2019, I thought it was a cruel prank and that Elon was going to pull a ripcord that caused all those flat panels to drop away leaving a stylish truck underneath. But as Elon explained how it was made, with super hard stainless steel that couldn't be stamped into compound curves, I started to get it. Then the look started to grow on me, and when Elon said ordering was open I was frantically placing my order.

Once I understood, I liked the product at the reveal, and then they did some design tweaks over the years that made it look even better. It still seems kind of "thick" around the bed, but that's a compromise for cargo volume that I'm happy to make. Even before the design tweaks I thought it looked better than the "frumpy" look of traditional trucks. It's a modern masterpiece actually. Mostly of engineering, but the look is modern, practical and iconic too.
I had the same OMG moment when the truck was first revealed.

But, a few minutes later, during that same reveal event, there was a short video showing a (IIRC) Ford F-150 and a Cybertruck doing a tug of war.

In that moment, seeing that new F-150 at the same time as the Cybertruck, that F-150 suddenly looked like an antique.

Ever since that moment, any other pickup truck now looks IMO like an antique.

Doesn’t matter how jacked up, blacked out, or spiffed up…all other pickups look like they might as well be relics of the 20th century.

Since you mentioned Engineering. Thought I’d share.

Agreed. I wouldn't care if the CEO was a woke liberal or far right conservative, I would still buy Tesla for their engineering excellence and value. But I'm glad he's more of a centrist and taking an active interest in moving humanity forward. More CEO's should share their knowledge of 'what makes the world go round' to make for a better future. Politicians have always needed feedback from titans of the industries that drive economies to make wise decisions, but it was mostly done in the shadows with little transparency. Elon's setting a very good example by putting his recommendations out in the open where we can see what he's doing. This is the correct model going forward.
