looks like they're moving forward with the campaign promise of killing the tax credit soon. Adding insult to injury, they want a one-time 1k at point of purchase . If you're thinking about committing to the CyberTruck, better start planning your move. Not sure how demand and wait time will be now.

"U.S. Senate Republicans on Wednesday proposed a pair of bills to kill the country's $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit and impose a new $1,000 tax on EVs to pay for road repairs."

"credits would end 30 days after the bill was signed into law."

Will all that is currently on the agenda, likely will be a month or two before it hits the floor for a vote?

I already bought a foundation so I have no skin in the game here… but it feels like for anyone who has been waiting to pull the trigger and qualifies for the credit, now’s the time.

Will Tesla just reduce the price by $7500? I have no idea. But feels like a good time to buy (any EV for that matter)

with all the tax reforms and reductions, this bill fits right in. It will be months but need to start ordering and secure finances now.

Surprised they having it happen 30 days post bill instead of at the end of the year.
That said, I also think it will be a couple months before it gets voted on, passed, etc.
Likely will be time for people to get some end of the quarter discounts/incentives and the tax credit.

Still unclear if the Commercial Clean energy will be rolled up into this, it could be seen as the same "EV Incentive" but also think that set of legislatures might be hesitant to do something that could be seen as not "Pro Small American Business" will be interesting to see how it goes.

“EVs can weigh up to three times as much as gas-powered cars, creating more wear and tear on our roads and bridges," Fischer said

BS. The average car weighs 4,600 lbs
The model 3 weighs less. The model Y weighs less.

I'm all about paying road taxes in some form (MD is implementing a $125/yr road tax per EV registration starting in July), but lying to get it through is not helping anyone.

A couple years ago Iowa added $900 to each EV for "road tax."

Yep, $200 "EV Registration Fee" here in Texas.

The EV Tax Credit was always going to be temporary, but I would have liked it to stick around a little longer.

Killing the EV rebate was never a campaign promise. Getting rid of the EV MANDATE was. Forcing domestic auto makers to manufacture EVs was never a good idea.
Please get your facts straight.

This type of false rhetoric is sponsored by big oil. "EV fires" and "EV causing road damage" and "EV battery replacement costs $25000" etc are all lies.

This was on the campaign trail:

“Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing.” Trump said.

The Trump transition team didn’t outline specific plans but said he’d be focused on “stopping attacks on gas-powered cars” in his new term. “President Trump will support the auto industry, allowing space for both gas-powered cars AND electric vehicles,” spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

Elon even replied to it:

“Take away the subsidies, it will only help Tesla,” he posted on his social media platform X in July.

Also, the "EV mandate" Trump campaigned on ending (said over 100 times according to Google) was The Inflation Reduction Act, which made the tax credits.

So, yes...Trump directly and indirectly campaigned on ending the tax credit and Elon supports it.
