I remember my CT being delivered with a notice to not put key cards in the phone charger, but I didn’t know why.
exactly. I was told the same thing and was surprised because for our X they told us "put the key card on the charging pad to drive."

All wireless chargers will do this. I have a user with a Yukon, she burns up a card every few months, because she just can't keep the door card off the back of her iPhone...

Don't put RFID/NFC cards in a wireless charger, simple!

The wireless phone charger is useless. My iPhone 13 overheats when you put it in there and it turns itself off temporary. Not sure if there is a software fix for that, but I doubt it.

Anecdote from my Model 3. I have an iPhone for work and an Android phone for personal use. The iPhone gets too hot to use the wireless charger in my Model 3. My Android phone has a setting to force low power inductive charging that I have to turn on and that works just fine. If I turn on high power wireless charging on the Android phone it will also get quite hot.

I was told during delivery to never place a phone over the key card in the charging tray. That engages the charging current flow which could lead to exactly the damage shown. In any case, there's no need to leave the key card on the charging tray. If you've exceeded the 2 minute time after unlocking the door to start the Cybertruck, briefly placing the key card on the tray gives you another 2 minutes to start the truck. There's never a need to leave the card there.

So, either there was a phone on top of the key card, or charging mode was erroneously turned on by the Cybertruck. Probably should be a small LED to let the driver know when wireless phone charging is active. Or at least a way to check it somewhere on the many, many options on the screen menus.

Edit: And the user guide should be updated to include that warning about never placing a phone over a key card in the charging tray.
