I know that many people in this community have swapped the included USB thumb drive for something larger and more robust, specifically the Samsung T7 and similar SSD drives.

I hated having the drive rattling around in my glove box, and I found that if you take the springy metal clip off the back of most major manufacturer's garage door opener remotes, you can use it to mount the SSD drive to the TOP of your glove box out of the way of all your paperwork.

The little light in the top of your Glove box has a gap in the plastic that is the perfect size for that clip to slide into it. If you just squish the clip a little bit, then install it, it will hold the USB SSD to the top of the glove box out of sight and securely, and even lets you wrap the cable into the clip to hide that as well.

For a rubberized feel to avoid scratching anything, I used shrink tubing on it and it worked perfectly.

If anyone needs pictures I can post them here.

Yes, please post the photos. My biggest problem is that because the port for the cable is not attached to the moving drawer. The cable moves around and gets caught all the time when opening and closing the drawer.

How did you do it? I was thinking of buying two adapters to accomplish that because I don’t like the cable. I want to flush mount like the OEM Tesla 1TB. The problem with the Tesla is that is randomly disconnects after a few days and I have to manually reset the car. Then it works for another two days. Service Center thought the SSD was the issue so I got a replacement from Tesla. Same issue so I bought the Samsung T7 Shield.

My setup accommodates an SSD and the karaoke dongle utilizing a switch. It doesn’t work using a hub. Although I do have a hub in there from Hannshow. The real trick is using magnetic USB cables that coil up when the drawer closes and uncoil when the drawer is opened. Tried many different options and the cables always got hung up preventing the drawer from operating properly.

Links below, (note that the magnetic cable is not the one that I purchased. It is no longer available from Amazon.) just there to show you what it is.

Thanks for sharing! I am going to get the supplies you recommended and do the same thing. I have a SSD and the caraoke dongle, as well, and it is a pain to reach back there and switch things out. Cable management is a pain also. My drawer gets stuck all the time on the cable for the SSD.

This is helpful!

Sadly, I can’t find a flat magnetic cables that coil laterally only the ones that stack and form a cylinder which are round cables.

The ones I purchased from Amazon are no longer available ?
But if you can find them somewhere else online, that would be better because they lay flat in the drawer.

I have the same issue of my usb drive randomly disconnecting- even though undisturbed and totally inserted - resulting in the loss of sentry recording capability - and requiring a reset every few days to restore functionality. Simply removing and reinserting it doesn’t work. I experience the same issue with both the original Tesla usb flash drive as well as with higher capacity usb drives. Were you able to solve it?
