I have a service appointment tomorrow for a couple of trim pieces. I stopped by the SC a few days ago to confirm the appointment and mentioned 7-8 of my friends have had their rear motors failed and needed to be replaced. I was wondering if they could look into it. They said we can't unless it's broken or there is an active recall on it.

Now, a few hours before the appointment checked my service and it has this added:

Cybertruck - Permanent Magnet Drive Unit Replacement.


And the 1 day service is now 3 days which is OK since I'll be out of town anyway.

Someone posted yesterday this service bulletin to replace motors, but it doesn't specify which vehicles/vins from what was shown. You just confirmed that it is apply to more than just units that are broken first.

My VIN is 0011xx. Picked up on 2/9. Haven't had any issues with the motor but looking forward to driving it with the new one to see if there is a difference in efficiency, power and/or noise.

Combination of inverter and motor. Some could only drive 65mph, some had to get theirs towed to SC. All being taken care of but it is interesting that there is no active recall yet.

I was on FSD on Tuesday and I felt a hard jolt with a loud noise. I was kicked out of FSD and got all the notifications. I was told by the service center that they think it may be the inverter. I have 12,159 miles on the truck. They should really do a recall.

What would you sue for? If they fixed it, there's no harm to sue for.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. Hopefully they have the part and can get you back on the road asap. Mine was supposed to be done by yesterday afternoon but the motor didn't get there until 4pm yesterday. So maybe today.
