Phase steering or four wheel steering is different than crab walk in my mind.

Phase steering YES, no interest in crab walk.

In my defense, my wife tells me I am crazy almost daily

Im not watching the video but I have a couple thoughts
1) the CT wheelbase is long enough that 4WS would greatly reduce turning and especially uturn radius.
2) phase steering would increase freeway stability especially over undulating sections or towing
3) crab walk would be very useful under certain circumstances. Anyone thats driven Imogene Pass in colorado would verify this. 6 point turns in my Gladiator at the edge of a 4000’ drop is a “good” feeling.

For diamond turn to work it would need 4 independant steering actuators, a way to precision align the wheels (to the mm) for forward and turning via Akermann geometry, a way to overcome a single actuator failure, especially if stuck at full lock and be able to comply with vehicle regs. Further it would require 45' degree front and rear steering angles, which would in turn need huge wheel arches, that physically don't fit in the front, let alone in the space constrained rear. You will be lucky to get 10-15 degrees in the rear. You would be better off, and it would be much simpler and cheaper, to have a small extendable jockey 5th wheel. Diamond turn isn't happening.

You don't need 45° to make a diamond turn nor do you need mm accuracy. You do in high speed steering, but that's a problem in common with any of the by-wire four wheel steering solutions.

Yea the space needed in the wheel arches doesn't seem wide enough to crab walk.

Unless there we raise the car to full height and the wheel mechanism juts out a tad...

Then we could make the car stand up too. :D

Welcome to my world.

I could live with 4 wheel steering.

As for four wheel independent steering the only comparison I have is with the military HETT that we used to haul the M1 Main Battle Tank.
The tractor had a steering axle and three pull axles. The rear pull axle steered.
The trailer had ten axles that were independent.
It was hard on tires and a nightmare to change them.
The tires were skinny and had almost no flotation which made getting the beast stuck easy especially with a 62 ton tank on it.
In my opinion it was designed by a crew of idiots after consulting a group of morons.
I always adhere to the KISS principle.

Keep It Simple Stupid

We tried to live by this mantra in the Army but were routinely overruled by the higher ups.

I think the engineers that designed the HETT system had never been inside a truck much less operated one with the GVR of almost 200,000 pounds.

No interest in crab, diamond or tank turn
Likewise. Not sure why he makes such a huge deal of this idea. The situations where you would need it most, it will likely be the least reliable. And if things go wrong you are very likely to be in a worse situation than you started.

Well except “crab” mode. Crabbing sideways in traffic instead of turning to change lanes is arguably safer. But should be automatic.

You buy targeting an expected PE ratio, not the current one.

In my experience, you always do well buying good companies, even when they are “too expensive”. Good companies, much like good products often look more expensive than they are worth. You just gotta dollar cost average into them and not buy huge amounts if they are on the high end of their curve. That said. Apple spent years being “Too expensive” but I made a lot of money investing in Apple over the years. Likewise Amazon.

Jury is still out on Tesla, but I haven’t been invested in Tesla for long.
