Greetings my fellow Cybertruck enthusiast,

On Sunday evening Dec 29th, at approximately 8:20 pm, my friend’s wife and their daughter were traveling in her Ford Mustang West bound on Griffin Rd, between I-95 & 441, in Davie Florida, when a Cybertruck passing them in the left lane suddenly and without warning rammed into her drivers side. The Cybertruck driver pulled over and acted like they were going to stop but then made a U turn and fled. She attempted to pursue but the damage to her front tire was too much. The first question that I asked (and we all will) is what color the truck was. She does not know. It was dark, happened, fast and I think she was in a bit of shock.

If by some chance someone here knows who did this or found damage to the passenger side of their Cybertruck, my friend and his wife would ask that that the person responsible HELP them with the repair costs. They opted not to file a police report due the sad reality of insurance, Carfax reports, etc… and they are going to incur the cost of repair on their own.

They are both professional people and do not harbor any ill will against people but would like an apology and, if possible, any help that the person can afford.

This should also serve as a reminder to be safe and responsible with our armored road tanks.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and have a happy and SAFE New Year,

Steve

Huh? This was a blatant and willful hit and run, a potentially serious crime in every state of the Union. Not reporting it is kind of like looking the other way for shoplifting, car break-ins and other crimes that make it harder for regular folks to make ends meet. Our cities and hughways become less safe when you start forgiving irresponsible people who have fled the scene.

I'm shocked that your friend and his wife don't file a simple police report. Are they involved in criminal activity themselves? Worrying about diminished value of their Ford when being the victim of a crime is very short-sighted and unwise.

They are both professional people and do not harbor any ill will against people but would like an apology and, if possible, any help that the person can afford.
I can hardly believe what I'm reading here. How about if I apologize for the criminals. Would that make your friend feel better about people who chose to live outside common sense laws (like stopping to render aid if necessary and exchange information when you are involved in a collision). I feel like I'm missing part of the story. Was someone in the Cybertruck in child labor or being rushed to the hospital with life-threatening issues? Why would a normal person ever decline to file a police report for a hit and run accident unless they felt they had some culpability themselves?

This should also serve as a reminder to be safe and responsible with our armored road tanks.
Huh? Is that your real takeaway from this incident? This is insane!

I have advice that will assuredly find the culprit, but it requires filing a police report for the investigation. Not submitting a report for a hit and run is absolutely bonkers. The police don't report to insurance companies, and it's not like their insurance could increase from such an event.

This type of response leads one to believe they avoiding police for other reasons. They can recover the full cost of repairs + the diminished value + removing hit and run dirtbags from the roadway.

One thing for sure the truck has it on camera and Tesla has the footage.

Show up to the nearest Tesla Collision Centers and tell them the story. They probably won't help without police being involed though.

The insurance companies are way ahead on this sort of thing. If you check your policy carefully, I think you will find that you must report anything that changes the condition or value of your insured item. So, one risks having their policy cancelled and maybe there are other consequences. IDK, but this is playing with fire, for sure. Something funny here.

My sympathies for the inconvenience, however there should ALWAYS be a police report filed. For many reasons that I shouldn’t have to list. GL relying on goodwill here.

Not reporting is going to cause you more problems than reporting, in the end.

Tesla only for-sure downloads footage if FSD was driving. They can unlock your car's data that was saved to it, but they don't collect it all.

the sad reality of insurance
What exactly does this mean in this case?

When the criminal go to the Tesla service center for repair, the service center will see the collision record, right? Does the law require them to check with and/or report to the police?

In some places. I don't know any in the US.

You could ask around at body shops, too.

Not likely. By the time the collision center sees the truck it will be well out of the stored footage. If it was automatically saved they likely deleted it.
I find it hard to believe that this was during FSD (like @Crissa was talking about) and if it was they would have no reason to run.

I created a repair request based on the dear impact I had and I'm looking at a March visit to get a quote.

I live in East Fort Lauderdale and will be on the lookout for a jacked up black CT. There’s lots of trucks down here but I would say with confidence I don’t see too many black wrapped CT’s. I agree with the others though, something does not add up.

No one ever suggested the Cybertruck was black in color, he clearly said it was not known what color the truck was as it was Dark (outside) - not a dark Cybertruck.
Something he also did not mention was what time frame it occurred other than being dark. Which you would think if this was legit and the people involved wanted some sort of compensation, would one file a police accident report and 2nd know better details as to time of day and direction of the truck after the accident etc.

Seems fishy to me that these minor details are not included in the somewhat detailed account, if it really happened and this isn’t just some FUD write up or negative Cybertruck connotation.
