Here is a close call, in FSD approximately 62mph, no reaction from the truck.

Obviously, this deer has learned to look both ways! Nice rack by the way.

Yeah even with current FSD it is very miss with deer. I think I've had it one time slow down when there was a deer on the side of the road.

Winter comes early in the hills. This is only about 2800 feet above sea level. I haven't even had time to get my winter wheel set on yet!

I think it responds just like most human drivers would at that speed in the dark. There is certainly room for improvement, both in humans and with FSD when it comes to deer near the road.

I have a lot of experience with deer, but it's still a real crapshoot in such situations because deer are highly unpredictable. Sometimes they freeze, sometimes they bolt (in any direction), sometimes, if you hit the brakes to slow down, they jump right on your windshield.

No human driver has enough experience to know what to do, perhaps beyond slowing down or stopping (if even possible). FSD will eventually be really good at it, better than the most skilled human, but it will take billions of more miles of training data.

And that's exactly what it feels like to drive through it silently in the Cybertruck. A dream. Sometimes even music playing through the excellent sound system seems to detract from the ethereal beauty and I have to turn it off.

There is a crescent moon on the left side of the second photo that was surreal looking in person but too small in the photo to make much of an impact.
