Hi folks,
I was curious about ethernet access for diagnostics, so I checked out the schematics. Looks like the OBD port provides diagnostic ethernet access to the MCU and is probably what you'd use during Toolbox access.
Pinout in the schematic matches what I found online for a BMW OBD/RJ45 adapter. I suspect any ready-made cable I'd find on Amazon to work. I'll confirm in a week or two once I take delivery.
Schematics also indicate an "ethersnoop" diagnostic ethernet port in the passenger footwell. Since they switched away from CAN to using an ethernet-based bus, my hope is this facilitates direct UDS access . This one looks like a traditional RJ45 jack, so no adapter needed. Tesla uses DoIP for Cybertruck (and will be supported for future vehicles), so my game plan is to read about what works for exploration of a BMW and give it a try against CyberTruck. Would be super cool if we could watch UDS routines over plain old RJ45 during a software update, but I guess we'll find out how much is actually shared.
If anyone gives this a try, let me know what you find!
