This happens with Tesla. Constant iteration vs waiting until the next model year.

Happened with our 2020 MYLRs, just in the first year or so from when we took delivery:

Icons on the door release buttons
Amber rear turn signals
Laminated front glass
Laminated rear glass
Rear package shelf
Updated super manifold/heat pump
HEPA filter
Heated steering wheel

Then upgraded interior and comfort suspension.

I like that because whenever you buy a Tesla, you’re getting the ā€˜latest’ model (unless theres a big refresh pending like with M3 Highland of course).

OTOH, it can be frustrating when you miss some cool upgrade by a week, haha!!

And, except for the HEPA filter, there was no official upgrade path. So it goes.

Hopefully that rear seal that’s subject to tearing can be replaced easy enough, haha!!
And most importantly, a two piece rear giga-casting vs. a single piece on all later Ys.

I’m glad Tesla is improving build quality for newer VINs. I believe we are in 30xxx range now. If they hadn’t done any improvements, that would have been very concerning. I can understand the frustration of missing out on these upgrades for current owners. Hope some of these upgrades can be done on early FS models. Next year there will be even more improvements. It’s a constant thing. You will always have an option of upgrade to CT 2.0+ models in the future, and you will never know what features will be omitted to bring the price down. Just have fun and make best memories with the CT in hand! ?. A CT in hand is better than two in the future ?
I was in the plant at the end of July and they had vin's in the 25,000 on the line. Mine is 17,000 ish built mid june. So they are averaging 200 a day x 6 day work week. I'd guess they are now around 34,000. I'll be back at the plant in 10 days or so and will check what they are up to.

Very nice! I’m glad production is ramping up. I hope build quality continues to improve. Please keep us posted. Thank you!

I feel like we should maybe start a thread of all the new stuff we should try to demand/get.
You can’t go to ford after buying a 2023 Mustang, when the 2024 Mustang comes out, and demand a new engine, just because it has a few more horsepower.
You could only demand something that was advertised when you accepted the truck, and it doesn’t have it.

Ford and Tesla aren’t even in the same stratosphere.

I can demand updates, I have and I’ve gotten them.

My Dual Motor Cybertruck was from early April, VIN in the four thousand range, and it has great build quality. I haven't even taken it in for the three recalls yet, because none of them appear to be a problem. Today we picked up a new "Highland" Performance Model 3 in Quicksilver for the wife. It appears to be perfect with no significant panel gap variations or other defects we can find. If you want to get picky, the trailing edge of the driver's door is about 1 mm proud of the leading edge of the rear door, you can feel it if you run your hand back and forth between the two. We loved the original Model 3's and the new ones are even better.

But yeah, Tesla always addresses any potential problems constantly, and much sooner than legacy auto that saves up improvements for the next model year or 3-6 year refresh.

No other carmaker in the history of automaking has had their quality scrutinized so closely and obsessively. Probably because legacy auto can't figure out how they can make such high quality cars, using such high-quality components and materials as inexpensively as Tesla. One of their many secrets is to be obsessive about true quality, quality that matters to go the distance, and not so obsessive on the stuff that doesn't matter. Never underestimate the cost of insisting on perfection, especially when the perfection doesn't really matter. People have become obsessive over unimportant details while being willing to accept engineering shortcuts and cheap construction that they can't see.

True, and you can demand anything, doesn’t mean you should expect to get them, or will.
