The wireless charging pad is always using power, even when empty. Place your hand on it at any time and you can feel that its warm. I agree that is unusable, charges slow and heats the phone a lot which will degrade the phones battery.

You could disconnect it, but I am not sure if there would be an error code. Maybe you can add a switch on the front of the center console if you are feeling fancy.

Elon replied to someone asking for a software disable option a few years ago with a "Yes", but it never happened.

Its a 3 step process to get access, see the below Service Manual link:

I went ahead and cracked my center console opened and unplugged the wireless charger. It was very easy and can be done in under 5 minutes if you have a plastic pry tool. Start at the top, just behind the charging pads.

There is an error that is only visible in the Service Mode. I am not sure what impact this will have. Also it disables the forward ambient light, as they are on the same control unit.

Wow, I admire your dedication. Wouldn't this no longer allow the usage of keycards?
That is right, you can see in the error codes that NFC is no longer working.

As a side note, I was hoping to do a MOD and put USB ports on the front of the center console, but as you can see in the pictures, the USB outlet is not very accessible and the wiring harness is way more complicated. There are about 50 wires going in for 1 USB-C port and an ambient light.

Even the orange cable going to the 12v outlet has 5 wires... why would you need 5 wires for DC? Maybe its wired in parallel with a 5th wire for a switch? Its actually the 120v outlet.

What 12V outlet? AFAIK, the Cybertruck doesn't have any.

AFAIK, inside it is only USB-C or 120V.

I made an edit I think after you quoted me, you're correct, its 120v.
It may be using the wires to handle power into the plug and then power to the back plug.

I have an Oh Snap holder on my phone that interferes with wireless charging except on a magsafe type charger. Thought this was a bug till I got my CT.

I will say this is a mildly irritating issue on a $100K truck. Seems like there should be a reasonable fix for this that can be applied to existing vehicles. Maybe just a small duct for the HVAC and some vent holes around the phone.

Actually, I say that it's an irritating issue on a $1500 iPhone. Teslas are not the only place that this happens. And it doesn't happen on my iPhone 14, nor my Google Pixel.

Look at the plethora of articles on "MagSafe Overheating" on the Internet.

Every In-Car Wireless Phone Charger Sucks

You are right, but his main point is Tesla could address this with proper ventilation at the charging point. Or allow the charger to be disabled via software. Or put USB ports outside the center console. There are cars that do this on the market. If there is a known issue, manufactures should include a known solution.

EDIT: Funny side note. I know cars with ventilated wireless chargers exist, I have seen the videos. But every search I do only shows chargers that attach to the AC vents.

Because your truck isn't doing it, doesn't mean it's not an issue. It's occurring on all models of phones if you look around the internet. Samsungs, Googles, etc. It's a bad charger...probably a large batch of either bad chargers or ones that weren't installed properly.
