In my experience, it does not. Have had the tailgate down on a few separate occasions while hauling furniture and it did not work. I was curious with that new camper video posted, if there was a way to fool the truck into thinking the gate was closed.

I met a fellow CT owner who had a spare tire covering his rear view camera. He purchased a new rear camera from Tesla, unplugged the old camera, then rewired and mounted the new camera on his Urander rack above the tailgate. He had to fiddle with it a bit but he said it worked. It’s definitely possible.

Someone in this forum has got to have experience with this.

Thinking of buying the Phoenix Cybercamper but it requires a lowered tailgate.

I routinely haul 10’ long loads of lumber in my Cybertruck requiring the tailgate to be down. FSD always disengages when the tailgate is down & I assume that is because the camera is pointing down at the roadway. However, TACC still works, you just have to engage it & I’ve done that while underway.

What sucks for me is that I always forget it’s in TACC & don’t put it back into FSD once I raise the tailgate up. Then of course, the next time I’m driving FSD won’t engage & that’s when I remember. Unfortunately, you have to pull over, stop, & set it to park before it will allow you to reengage FSD.

I appreciate you.
