Tesla needs to post large banners outside every delivery service center in the country that reads:

"2026 AWD Cybertruck $59,990"

I don't know how much of the general public has heard about the $20k Cybertruck price drop.
They’ve heard. They’re complaining about Elon’s 10 day threat/edict/unforced message muddling. People don’t really trust Tesla anymore.

When I transferred full self driving to my model S plaid in 2023 I was told that it was a one time offering that would never be offered again. And then literally became the norm for the next several years. Now you can’t buy it.

There’s always this inducement to create sales that ends up being a game how long should I wait when am I gonna get the best deal. I think this is currently backfiring in his face and he’s going to sell fewer of these trucks than he would have if he had just been quiet. He’s already tried to walk it back. It’s disastrous!

It really is ridiculous.

None of the high pressure sales tactics of a used car lot, but all of the random sales gimmicks just in a different form. Wish Tesla would lay off the pricing/features/bonus whiplash stuff, made buying the CT for me a lot more stressful than it should have been. (beyond the price going up 60% from my pre-order)

The question is how many people are willing and able to make a big purchase on a flash sale if this deal cuts off next week like they stated.

I wasn't looking to buy a vehicle at all but the offer was too compelling and I had cash in hand.
Think this will be one of the best "deals" on the CT, not sure what the future holds but doubt they get much cheaper.

I agree. I don't know how much more wiggle room is left after this price drop. Even if they can shave another 5 grand off, im still content with my 59k entry point.
I think they could hit 45k and still have a decent chunk of profit in it with the smaller battery packs that they ended up going with. But based on everything else out there not much point of going below 55-60 for the price competitiveness with the cost of other trucks.
As far as trying to "time the market" think you did about as good as possible up to date.

I disagree and that’s kind of the reason I’m a little bit bitter about it. I think sales are going to continue to slump and I think he is going to have to make them cheaper. I have no doubt that he will bring back the ability to purchase FSD and other incentives to sweeten the pie when nothing he’s done/is doing changes the dynamic that he’s created in the market.

He has told everybody that Tesla doesn’t want to be a car company. It’s smacks of taking your ball and going home after people have rejected your political dalliances. ā€œYou can’t fire me I quit!ā€

Whatever the reason, for him blurting out that they’re leaving this space I do not believe that Robotaxis are going to take off the way that he thinks. I think it’s gonna be a huge miss even more so than selling hundreds of thousands of cyber trucks every year or the going to Mars stuff. (I hadn’t really thought about it too much until Neil deGrasse Tyson came out and just poured cold water all over that and made it clear that this wasn’t something that would happen during any of our lifetimes. You know that Elon couldn’t argue with it because he didn’t come out immediately and call him a pedo! He literally shifted gears and started looking at the moon instead.)

There’s so many logistical and social reasons why Robotaxis are not going to proliferate in the numbers that he keeps talking about.

Optimus? I always said I would be the first one to have one, but I have very little trust in Tesla at this point and I’m not sure that I really am willing to bring a murderbot into my home.

I can afford it, my decision will be made entirely upon trust (of both the AI and Tesla). Many people won’t be able to afford it and have already made up their minds about Elon.

The original vision has been abandoned and corrupted. I don’t know where it goes from here.

I think there are a few camps
Looks: Love / Hate / Neutral
Budget: Unlimited / Kia / $50-$60k

The people that hate it and the people who are broke will never get one.
The people that love it and have plenty of cash already have one
What will be interesting is to see how many of the people who like the looks or are neutral but didn't have the cash now move.

Here’s my calculus. I just think for the general buying public electric trucks are just not what they want. I don’t think that’s debatable at this point. AND I don’t mind saying it’s for the reasons that I’ve been saying since day one on this forum. They do not have enough range with or without towing and you can tell people that they only need 300 miles range all you want but that was never going to work. I ranted about it many times against a lot of different detractors! I’m not above saying it so I’ll do so: I told you so!!! what’s happening now hybrids and smaller trucks that are not intended to tow. Will they be successful? I don’t know but they certainly don’t suffer from the very obvious dealbreaker that I pointed out from the moment that Elon told us we weren’t getting the 500 miles he initially ā€œpromised.ā€ I know that will trigger some people sorry, not sorry.

Add to that the general political baggage that you have to take on with a Cybertruck and the fact that Tesla has said publicly (foolishly in my mind) that they are not now and do not intend in the future to be a car company!

And I can’t speak for everybody, but, I want to buy cars from companies who want to be in the car business. I want to buy cars from people who love the car business!!!

I don’t want to worry about whether my car is going to be supported when the CEO decides to abandon in the market completely and just sell refrigerators or whatever. I’d said before after my CT I had probably purchased my last Tesla (mostly because I expect these cars to last the rest of my life) but it’s absolutely true now.

I just think that that’s an insane thing for him to have said out loud and make the cornerstone of the business. I understand why he did it I get the vision. Robotics first!

But I’ve said before somewhere on the forum that where we’re headed, AI and robotics, is 100% about trust and Tesla has not earned that trust. Not even for me and I’m a fan of what they’ve done. This is not gonna go down the way that he thinks.

I still hold early reservation-it's not the Price but the Size. As a T$LA long I want the Maverick size with top features. Gonna wait little longer! ;)

I’m not sure where there’s a place for it on the road-map. Pun not initially intended but … we shall see. Where Tesla is going they claim, they don’t need any roads!
