Just found it fascinating that Fjord Line’s (famous for cruise ships and ferries running on natural gas) new car and passenger catamaran which this summer is set to operate between Kristiansand, Norway, and Hirtshals, Denmark, (in just 2 hours 15 min travel time) has room for 404 cars (+1200pax) and has implemented the unbelievably good idea of EV charging aboard!

So it seems one can drive aboard with an almost depleted battery, eat a dinner at sea, and continue with a fuller battery. Although a fast ship that would seem like an unbelievable efficient use of ferry travel time.

The obvious still unanswered questions are how many charging cables and what kW.. stay tuned for what I fear is disappointment....

EDIT: Only information I could find thus far is that it is NOK 99 (USD 11.71) extra for a charging spot aboard.

are all ferries in Norway that expensive?
Most inland ferries are subsidized, except those in central and heavily trafficked routes.

This one is from the southern tip of Norway to Denmark though. It’s popular in the summer, and all year round when it comes to commercial traffic, because it’s fast and you don’t have to drive through half of Sweden.
