FWIW, i got my update notification completely independent of my daily software check. Figured I’d toss that out there since people still seem to think they are screwed if they check. Looks like these big updates are pushed.

I checked around 7p last night, nothing, and got the notification around 10:50pm to download/install.

I also received a push notification to install this AM. This was after just checking for updates last night and seeing nothing.

I checked out the max speed offset. The initial value for that parameter was 40%. That’s way high, I thought, it would have me driving 84 mph in a 60 mph zone.

When I changed the value to 10% a note popped up, reading “40% recommended”. Is this normal? Can someone who is familiar with this chime in?

Yeah, so it will essentially go at or just above the speed limit when you are alone, but speed up to go with the flow of traffic if others are around. 40% works fine, but if the speed becomes excessive you can dial it back down to better fit the situation. I think most people don't really pay too much attention to their speed bursts when overtaking people, but become hyper aware when they aren't the one smashing the pedal lol.

MUCH better system than previously when we couldn't even dial the speed down. They are making steady improvements in speed control. It will also make a difference to choose standard, or "chill".

Tried it again today to run some errands with the knowledge of it likes to tailgate…

overall it is good and drives fine, and maybe slightly better than what I’m used to in the trials i have done previously in my ModelY… just need to eliminate the tailgating and abrupt braking distance to a complete stop.

Do you have it in "hurry" mode? Right and left toggle with the right thumb wheel to change modes.

Speed offset is confusing, would be nice if you could just set it to go over speed limit 10 mph. It reads the signs afterall.
An mph offset is in line with the schedule of fines in most Texas jurisdictions (and that's probably typical elsewhere, too), with fines increasing based " x mph above the posted limit."

On the other hand, you won't receive a citation if you're not stopped by a law enforcement officer.

In my experience, you're less likely to get stopped by that LEO when driving 10 mph over the limit in a 75 mph zone (about 13% offset) than you are when driving 10 mph over the limit in a 35 mph zone (about 26%). Because of this, I think using a percentage offset is better.

Yes. If it actually felt free to do it when safe, IMO 10% over would seldom get one in trouble. That would be +3 MPH at 30 MPH (unlikely to be a problem even in small towns or school zones) and +7 MPH at 70 MPH. +7 is what a lot of people say one can just about always get away with.

Smarter would be a percentage as a safe aspiration, but even above that (subject to some second limit), flow of traffic speed if safe. That would let one avoid being ticket bait, but also avoid annoying fellow drivers.
