Okay, so... You don't, apparently, know.Yes, I know that the use Lightning before USB-C existed, but USB Mini and USB Micro existed and worked on all the other phones.
A USB-C or micro or mini can all be equally as water resistant as a Lightning.
No, a USB micro or mini cannot be as water resistant as a Lightning connector because a Lightning connector is a sealed unit.
Mini had its own problems, primarily that the springs were in the jack instead of the plug. Micro has them in the plug and is and was, otherwise, a terrible design that is just a pain to plug in blind.
USB-C now has some sealed versions of the spec, but they're just not as good as Lightning. But Lightning did have a power limitation - and no reason, with USB-C 'nearly' as good and a regulated requirement in the EU, to be invested in another version of it to carry higher power loads.
