I've not seen/heard anyone discussing this but someone must have a current Tesla with a hitch and FSD. How does FSD handle a trailer? Obviously this will be a bigger issue with the CyberTruck but I'm curious if the FSD team has been working on this use case.

From Model Y Tesla Support:

What does Trailer Mode do?
Trailer Mode must always be active when towing a trailer. Some Autopilot features such as Autopark and Autosteer, as well as rear parking sensor functionality, may not be available when Trailer Mode is enabled.

In addition, the following features operate differently:

  • Traffic-Aware Cruise Control increases the following distance from the vehicle in front of you.
  • Side collision warnings are active but automatic steering interventions are disabled.
  • The braking force provided by Automatic Emergency Braking may be limited. Therefore, stopping distance may increase.

I would assume that the CT "Trailer Mode" would be similar. I'm skeptical that FSD with a trailer will be available before basic FSD is commonplace.

I do agree that it shouldn't be a priority right now for the FSD team; its nice to know they are thinking of it though! As I don't have a Tesla vehicle as of yet I wasn't aware of this mode.

I wonder if Tesla could account for a trailer if, say, they built the trailer and knew the exact dimensions, or better yet the trailer had its own cameras (and batteries?) that would tie into the CT making the combo a cohesive whole.

Or if they put sensors that either talk thru the connection or wirelessly to the Cybertruck, thus allowing some of these features because sensors are available.

Agree that Ct will follow similar trailer guidelines, but keep in mind the CT is coming a year from now.

By then trailer mode may be more advanced, and we also have Dojo, who can test 30 million trailer configurations in 1 second.

Actually.... Tesla had a RV on their web site ? .. Tesla doesn't do that for aesthetics

This is actually a huge safety improvement opportunity for Tesla and the human race. RVers are normally older drivers that don’t have great reaction times anyway. Increasing following distance and constantly sampling sensors is a huge safety improvement for this vehicle class. I would think in 3 years time this will be fully included in the FSD model.

CT can just use the rear facing cameras and Ultrasonic sensors to monitor what the trailer is doing and even incorporate anti-sway and jackknifing features out of the box, without any new trailer mounted sensors.
