Had a bad "intervention" today just 5 minutes after trying it out that I couldn't even prevent from making a dangerous decision fast enough. Got lucky it wasn't a head on accident.

I was waiting to make a left turn at a light. Light turned green and was supposed to yield for a left turn. There was a Model Y on the other side going straight towards me that it should have yielded for, but my CT confidently just went left first anyway.

As it happened I couldn't believe the CT just turned left like that. I didn't feel there was enough time/space to turn back right and move enough to get out of the way so I my instinct was to intervene and accelerate faster to get out of the intersection. Thankfully the MY slowed down.

Very weird, not even a complicated scenario. Common yielding left turn, but very dangerous.

This, I think this is a bright demonstration of the majority of "negative" or "dangerous" experiences with FSD - perception. See, to me this looked fine - a bit slow, but I would've drove the same way, and probably would've not paid a second thought after FSD made this turn but to this user it was "dangerous" "head on accident". The same probably applies to many other who complain that FSD stops too quick, hugs the line, cuts in, etc. etc. I'm not dismissing all negative experiences because there are probably few that legitimate, but I feel that vast majority is just perception.

My first time trying FSD moments ago in downtown Fort Lauderdale. My only comments are ā€œwowā€ and ā€œgame changerā€!

what are you talking about? It’s against the law to do this because it’s dangerous ? you have to yield to oncoming traffic on a left turn at a light. Oncoming car going straight has the right of way and you can’t turn INFRONT of an ONCOMING car like that.

you may do this normally, or the maneuver looked normal/smooth, but it’s not correct, legal or safe to do this. If that oncoming car was coming faster it would have been a different scenario. Just because the CT beat the other car on turning doesn’t mean it should have even attempted to do so.

I don’t post this as a hater, I’m excited and couldn’t wait for FSD and I can’t wait until all these kinks get figured out. I used it for over two hours today on commute to and from work. Was awesome.

But FSD making a decision like this is educational to know and also share that you REALLY have to supervise, even on decisions/maneuvers that you think are going to be basic like a yielding left turn. And even supervising, it’s really surprising how fast FSD reacts and decides, and it’s a great thing, but also creates some concern as to how fast you can get into a situation and not necessarily have enough time to cancel/get out of.

I was taking my two young boys to school in this case. Safe to say I won’t mess with FSD with the kids in the car until we go through some updates…..but hey I get it….Day1/V1 FSD.

Cybertruck is my first Tesla, today is the first time I’ve used FSD. Does anyone else feel like it’s not going to stop in time and rearend the car in front of you? Also seems like it taking turn to sharp and hit the curb.
Is this happening to anyone else or Is it me not trusting the system?

This is exactly what I'm talking about, perception:

I’ve had FSD with other teslas but haven’t had FSD since I got my Cybertruck in March. Today, it came in way too fast and braked fairly late. It wasn’t dangerous but clearly needs some refinement. Be vigilant and ready to takeover. I had my foot hovering half an inch over the brake.

I did about 5 drives today on my usual routes that I use FSD on my other cars.

I will say the hardware 4 version of FSD does seem better than the hardware 3 cars that I have.

The highway end to end is way better for me. They fixed a few trouble spots but there is still one ramp where it tries to go to Daytona Beach instead or Orlando. All my cars do the exact same thing at that spot. It’s weird because the navigation is telling it to go one way but it’s not listening.

Auto max speed is working great for me. Sometimes it does the speed limit or a little over. I’m just along for the ride so no problem. On the interstate is was doing 71 in a 65 and nice,y keeping with the flow of traffic.

I do notice that the cybertruck seems to have problems with medians. It will turn a little too sharp into them. I let it do its thing and it avoided but a little too close for comfort.

I had two red hands of death warnings when the truck was driving straight into the setting sun. That has happened on my other cars too. Blinded by the light I assume.

Got the update over night and took 2 short drives today.

Drive 1 to a school a mile away. Didn’t recognize the school zone speed limit. Interaction 1. A smaller than normal stop sign at the school, no line on the road. Super hard brake. Didn’t use it home, lack of trust.

Drive 2 was about 5 miles round trip. Drove way too close to the right the whole way, I swear it was inches from mailboxes. All left turns it made cut the corner of the opposite lane. Went to cross a 4 lane road with a shared center turn lane, needed to go straight, only 1 coming from the right, very visible. Without interaction 2, would have been a t-bone. Took a railroad crossing at offset+7 speed limit.

I have no need for in town FSD, I just hope highways are anything close to the EAP I had in my 2018 S. Will be a bit before I make it to a highway for a long drive. FSD IMO is cool, but no way would I use in a city.

I got mine yesterday. Got to do several things. Overall quite impressed and wanted to tell the FSD team great work in releasing this. I went through the following

freeway
residential (no lanes)
stop sign
speed bump
challenge/response scenarios
negotiating
4 way stop sign
left hand turns
right hand turns
arriving to destination fully
people crossing the street

The way that it behaves, it drives a lot more natural with left hand and right hand turns not smooth but reaching mini nav points. It felt jagged at times. Otherwise. Impressive. *golf clap*

That camera tracking where your eyes are focused. Need some ideas to defeat.

pretty cool. It may be that the software is just early and overly cautious, but I do hope they get rid of the supervised version (or atleast the helicopter supervised parent version). Cant even look at the displays without it going bonkers on you.

Am I missing the option to turn off auto lane departure? Or do they really just force you to deal with it changing lanes when it wants?
Do the other Tesla models have unsupervised versions?

My truck was getting work done for the last week and a half and I just got it back today. As soon as I got home, the FSD update was available. I excitedly started the update process while preparing to wash a week and a half’s worth of dust and dirt from both outside and inside from the Tesla repair techs.

Finally was able to try it out taking a trip to the local supercharger. The truck, for whatever reason, literally drove on the left lane line of whatever road I was on. One road had the double yellow lines with road reflectors and it drove right on top of those until I stopped it. Needless to say I was disappointed. I drove on a road with a curbed median and I had to intervene when it again wanted to immediately move to the left side of the lane. I didn’t want to give it a chance to curb rash my tires. I made the verbal report after each incident so hopefully Tesla can tweak it if it’s something that many folks are experiencing.

The FSD in the loaner MX I was driving while it was getting fixed was pretty much perfect. I usually stopped it but generally because I wanted to go faster, not because it did anything wrong. It was a 2020 model but the FSD worked well.

Tesla has been doing lane keeping forever so it’s weird that the truck would deliberately move to the left side of the lane as soon as FSD was engaged. Hopefully it’ll be fixed in a future update. I’ll still try it every now and again but definitely without any cars or curbs nearby.
