We have a FS Beast. LOVE the truck, it’s a magical piece of machinery.

That being said, we live in Cheyenne.

FSD sucks here.

It has absolutely no idea what the speed limit is, then there’s the random lane changes. When we go to Denver, FSD is phenomenal. Once you get about 30 miles outside of Cheyenne on 25/85 it’s like FSD forgets what it’s supposed to be doing.

Have other folks from smaller towns experienced this or are we special snowflakes here in Cheyenne. We were so excited for FSD 14 and it’s somehow worse.

Hmm, weird.

I live in a small middle of nowhere town. It is certainly not mapped in detail, most roads have no lines, many have no speed limit signs, and i have zero issues. 13.2.9 was 85-90% there.

14.1.7 is basically 99.9% there. it handles everything except finding and parking in my off the road driveway.

We have a friend here who also has a FS Beast. FSD is working for him. I wonder if we need to reboot the truck.

Could be.

Maybe a good cleaning of the inside and outside of the front camera also. I personally cleaned the glass in front of the windshield camera using invisible glass, and then followed up with a clay bar to remove haze and grime, and finished up again with invisible glass. I feel this improved performance for me, even on 13.2.9.

I live in a not tiny but still smaller town, bit rural where I live, but the city is pretty normal. FS makes a lot of mistakes here too, we have about 8000 folks here, but its the hub for many other small towns to shop in so its built out or not too small.

FS is a long ways off still even with v14 from doing perfect here it seems.

We had the local service center clean the cameras on Tuesday. No improvement. From the other tread it looks like we need to actually train the truck.

I’ve driven FSD through 25 states, and in small towns and large cities alike. I live in a rural area where FSD was historically ’bad’ at handling narrow roads (former horse trails tbh), but regularly go to the big cities (DC, Alexandria, Baltimore, etc) which are near me and of course when I’m on the road. It’s far more capable in more common situations.
I will say that for me - where we live - all the issues I had with all previous versions of FSD over the last 4 years have been fixed in 14.1.7.
I’m going to go to my test loop in a couple days to see how that gets handled. It’s been such an issue for FSD over the years that it makes it so obvious when there are improvements or regressions.

That's my experience, even on dirt roads! People who haven't tried FSD have no idea!

So, from what I gather from this thread is that we need to use FSD here more often to essentially train the truck so it learns.

I used google maps edit to add in my 500 ft driveway and now FSD can find, turn in and get to my garage. Not sure if you have tried it..... It's pretty easy just submit an edit for review. (Google maps)

We live in a town of 2900 and FSD in both the CT and my Juniper is not as intuitive in town, I usually just wait until I am further in my commute to start it. I've noticed that even in Madmax mode, it won't pass anyone on a rural road and I've tried using my blinker and it just shuts it off... I'm probably too aggressive on my way to work - lol I still love using it, hopefully we are helping to improve it :)

Yes indeed, just added it last week, so waiting for that to be approved.

Just curious, how long did it take after your road was added to Google maps before navigation took you into your driveway? I see my driveway/road exists now on Google maps, but it’s not yet navigating down it.

Mark - what I did is
1. Make the edit on Maps, wait. I did call my edit <my address driveway road> ... It shows up on Google as "unnamed road".
2.When the edit is accepted and appears on Google maps. Do a Google navigation to that new endpoint and send it to the Tesla app on your phone. It should make it to your truck.
3. try to navigate to it.

Mine worked on the first try (with V14). I had 90% failure with previous FSD. (it got lucky once).
FSD v14 did overshoot on the second nav.
All subsequent navs have worked and Tesla nav shows the edits. Once it has made it "up" the driveway it now makes it "down".

I <believe> that there is a learned memory component in the new fsd that may also be in play here but I think the map edit is needed to spur things on.
I can see the fsd still tentative with my driveway as I have piles of cut firewood on the sides/etc the cams don't like and get cautious with - but - pretty impressed with the improvement.
Let me know if this helps and how you make out. Good luck!

Looks good for me now, it took a few days but my driveway is now a private road and now the CT comfortably navs in to it to my parking spot. My life is complete. 😁
