Just want to add that this is not a slam post on FSD. Just wondered if there was anything that would really make you rethink FSD if it happened to you.

Thanks for kind answers and just not trashing me. I am just not there yet on FSD and not sure if I ever will be in my driving years that are left....... :)

Well I got a little too confident with the whole fsd parking in my garage.

spent the day with my son on errands and watching the truck go and park for us. It took us home and instead of pulling into the driveway it turned around to back in… we watched in amazement as it slowly backed up … then boom… contact with my house.

and as it made contact it maintained backwards pressure as I hit the brake. So I pulled forward and to my disappointment the truck made contact rear left corner with the garage pillar and fascia.

so a few notes:

- yes I was overconfident in fsd.
- when the truck backed into the garagethe side mirrors folded back so I didn’t have the side mirror view but the pillar cameras were working. (as they do when I park head in first)
- damage to back quarter panel, wrap, rear bumper and facia.

I’ll fix the wrap easily but the bumper looks slightly chewed up.

Darn, that was really close. I’m not brave enough to try that close of a space. I do not park or use super chargers while using FSD supervised.
I intervene quite a lot but do not mind it. I park, back into chargers, and use the scroll wheel to change speeds quite a bit. In the last maybe 8 days I drove 250 miles of which maybe 5/8 were me driving on one trip (old version FSD) and over 600 on 14.2. On all major roads everything is great. So far when speed is not where I want it, I just use the scroll wheel. I don’t think FSD is refined enough yet to trust in tight places or bad weather. This week I drove at night in heavy to moderate rain and I was nervous since it was difficult to see road lines. Truck drove but I was ready to take over. I did notice that speed was 70 but truck was averaging 50/55. I have not been able yet to get parking close to my home charger to be a reality. It wants to go to the front door. Progress is happening and we all hope for the day we can have input into vehicles telematics. Many times I stop FSD to change route and make a turn, then start it back immediately trying to train it to take my preferred route but so far it’s not working!

It would have to be way more than anything it’s ever done. Little things don’t matter in the long run. Missed exits because construction moved them, not obeying Walmart’s arrows in their parking lots, taking a wrong turn, whatever. It’ll get you there and won’t put anyone at risk. If you’re looking for one instance that would make me stop using it, it would have to just go insane and drive into the concrete median on the freeway or something. It’s so far fetched and impossible that it’s not really worth talking about.

But for you, if it was offered to you today on your Maverick you wouldn’t use it? Because of a slight possibility of an extremely minor collision?

If it makes you feel any better, about a week after i got my Foundation Cyberbeast, I was in a 100% dark underground parking garage and backing into a spot trusting the sensors and cameras and WHAM, right into a cement wall. It nicked the bumper and bent the top corner of my side panel.

I ended up bending the panel back with adjustable wreches covered in tape and sandpapered the corner of the bumper and never ended up getting it fixed, figurng I was keeping the truck forever and it's a truck after all.

I think FSD is amazing and the bet on cameras only FSD was the right bet by Tesla, but it's not lost on me that super cheap ultrasonic sensors (like those on a cheap Kia) would not have made this same mistake.

Yes I would not use it even if it was free. I have been driving for close to 50 years (since 16) and just to old to start something new that I still need to supervise. But I do agree at some point in time it will be the way to go and may even become a standard feature on vehicles.

I am retired and just do not drive that much anymore so the 5-10 miles a day (4 -5 days) just doing it the old fashion way for me is no hardship.

We do take a trip to see the grand kids in Houston area once every 3 months so I guess it might be ok on 290 after I got through Elgin. From Elgin to Houston it is 25-30 miles between towns and just a nice divided highway till you get to Waller and our Buc-ees stop.

I’m sorry that happened. Thank you for sharing as I have become very confident in FSD. We can all learn from your experience. In my experience, parking is the Achilles heel for the FSD CT edition. Its maneuvers are questionable at times and often ends up crooked or off to one side.
Agree. I appreciate Mark sharing this as I have a tight garage entrance and tend to be overconfident. Really helps me avoid heartache, so THANK YOU Mark805!

My mother is 78 years old, and after trying out my Cybertruck on FSD v13.2.9, she traded in her 2022 Hyundai Tucson for a 2026 Model Y AWD with FSD back in September. She now uses FSD for greater than 90% of her driving, most of it locally for shopping and visiting friends.

She doesn't like driving at night or during rush hour (which is nearly constant in Atlanta!), but now she doesn't even think about it - let's the car do all the work. It's been a game changer for her.

I am a driver at heart. I love driving. Anytime, any length, and anywhere! The convenience of FSD however is understated. I can sip my coffee while it drives my kids to school. I can relax on the way home from another city after eating at a buffet restaurant, even though im drowsy.
Your comment to me shows ignorance only because you are making it from a place of unknowing. Assuming. It is fun to experiment with it or the novelty of it even if you only use it for that

I am happy for you and your Grandma Loudness and I wish her safe travels and I totally get her no night and rush hour traffic.

My misses (68YO) does not drive anymore really except to the local HEB food store (4 miles). Like Atlanta, Austin TX drivers can be nuts and I-35 is always rated as one of the worst freeways in the U.S.

You never know maybe in 4 or 5 years I will change my mind. I truly wish everyone here safe travels and always keep sentry mode on your CT when parked. Anyone who damages any person's vehicle should be hung up and flogged.....

Yes Cyberham I am unknown on many, many things but that is why I ask, and any questions I pose is not meant to cause hate or such. I am just trying to learn and understand other's. But since I do not have a Telsa and FSD is only on them I do not see how I would test it either. Our group of neighbors and friends here do not have Telsa's either. I would not just go down to a SC or showroom to test drive a vehicle I have no intention of buying. That is not fair to them the salespersons.

I have had to stop mine from several parking accidents, including pulling into my own driveway and garage. I too wish that there was some kind of training app for specific places.

One other thing I always wondered is for a normal everyday driver vehicle is there any real benefit of a Dual motor or Tri motor? Is there such a thing as a single motor Telsa

Yes. Each motor gives faster acceleration and different drive characteristics. They made a single motor ct for a little while. There are also other single motor teslas. The big loss between single and dual is all wheel drive.

Regarding fsd, its understandable to not want to participate in testing a beta product, but its nearly there. For me, just by its very nature, the only way i wouldnt use fsd is if i didnt have a tesla. Its a program. Programs have limits. Understanding the limits of the program one is using is a big component of actually using it.

The statistics will show that driving with FSD reduces major accidents and saves lives as well. Now that FSD keeps track of the miles driven under FSD - insurance companies will offer big discounts based on usage of FSD— this will accelerate the demand for FSD as well. Musk’s iterative in use development of FSD over millions of miles driven is the only way this system could be created. In ten years FSD will save billions in physical damages and also save literally millions of lives. A few fender benders is meaningless in the long run development of this wonderful life saving technology. Tesla keeps improving this system almost by the month and for free! No upgrade fees —
Think how many lives could be saved by reducing drunk driving accidents— and elderly caused accidents - not wanting to encourage driving while impaired - but once full autonomous driving happens deaths caused by alcohol will decline significantly.

thanks! That’s the reason I posted it. I know I was “supervising” but after the truck parked so many times earlier I fooled myself.

I learned a few things …

1 - turn off the folding mirror when home option for better views backing.

2 - seriously pay attention.

3 - when painting up the damage on the house to avoid my wife going ballistic… use the trim color paint… not the house color. 😎
