I recommend 3M ceramic tinting only. Many brands of tint can overheat any window. The same thing goes for high-rise condos.
I’ve use 3M Ceramic on the our Model X, tinted all the way down to the Visor line. Live in SoCal. No issues.

Same here!! Did it to both my X and S both since 2019. Never a problem but I’m hearing it’s the size of the window I guess. May try clear. I have it windshield as well now I’m worried about that one.
Btw, I have Xpel XR Plus or something like that.

Would you mind sharing what brand, product line, and % your tint on the roof glass is?

Yes, XPEL XR Plus. I did the top to match my windshield which I’m certain was 50% (the darker side for a windshield).

I’m worried now. This is going to suck if we can’t mitigate heat using tint or a reflective sun shield over the “dash”. Sounds like a engineering & materials design flaw and liability to release a production vehicle with a windshield that cracks so easily.

Yes, and I always use a high in tint and wrap company here in Irvine Ca. that do very high end cars. I’ll be calling them tomorrow to see if there had issues like this and if it would be ok if instead of the dark tint I can do the clear. They both have the same reflective component.

We've observed and heard about issues with the front windshields and glass roofs of Cybertrucks where the tint retains heat, causing the glass to shatter. This problem has also been noted by our neighbor, Sunshield, who has extensive experience with Cybertrucks.

To address this, we developed an exterior tint kit originally designed for the Hummer EV's plastic top glass. This innovative solution is now available for Cybertrucks as well. Our exterior tint kit effectively reduces heat retention and prevents the risk of glass shattering, providing a safer and more reliable tinting option for your vehicle.

This is an easy application. Give us a call if you want your own kit: 818 905 5678. Ask for Dean and tell them you are from this forum

certainly tint/sunshades causing glass to crack/break is a myth?!

The same thing happened to me about six week ago, my C T's Glass roof cracked with several lines while at the first time I did park outside on summer heat.
The crack happed only to the inner layer of the glass roof, obviously a defective item, but my schedule to repair is about nine weeks, that is by the 19th of August. Sine it is inside layer of the glass, I have been driving the CT on a regular basis.
Still deep in my mind, that is a real concern!

Seems we might have a good 'ole case of correlation vs causation.

If there are equal #'s of CT's without tint experiencing spontaneous roof and windshield cracking vs those with tint, I think correlation wins.

I've spoken with 3 different tint/PPF shops in Las Vegas, and from what I can gather the three shops combined have tinted around 90 CT windshields, and not one of them has had a customer report cracking (if you believe them).

That being said, my Dad bought a Model X in 2022, and 2 weeks after he took delivery his windshield cracked (no tint involved) all the way from the left side to the right.

Maybe Tesla glass just has a high defect rate?

I have 3M Crystalline 60% tint on my windshield and roof with no issues so far. Took the truck to Sequioa baking in the sun with the interior reporting 140 degrees for a few days…

No cracks so far…

Yes, I’ve had mine out in much hotter situations exterior and interior. I had the AC on and it was 81 degrees outside when it happened. It is possible that this is a cumulative thing. I’ve had my truck since March and tinted it right away.
