I agree with you, but I think this entire thing is all because he accidentally did something resembling a nazi salute a couple weeks ago. It's crazy how stupid the world is.
Accidentally? The exact same thing twice? How? Provide a single other example of someone accidentally doing the exact same gesture 2 times back to back.

Even Tourette’s is involuntary, not accidental.

You know, nevermind. Let’s have the AI (which by the way has been trained to avoid this issue like the plague if you ask it a direct question about it) help us with the probabilities of this being accidental … twice, … back to back.

ā€œAstronomically low, approaching zero!ā€ ? Feel free to ask Grok before he’s told what to say. ?

I think the problem is the world isn’t as stupid as folks would need it to be for this explanation to work. The super intelligence certainly isn’t. ?

Also there’s no prompting here beyond what you see. I didn’t ask about context. WYSIWIG.

Oh, I didn't know. It is Elon-like to embrace mistakes like the Cybertruck window crack (but this is much worse).

He did a thing twice, yes. To a lot of people it looked like one thing, to some people it looked like another, and then of course there is his intent. The accident is in the mismatch of what he was trying to do and what came out. The question people should ask is why the richest and most accomplished person in the world would be toying with some highly polarizing ideology and related symbolism that is pretty much is meaningless today besides being a tool to insult people. We have many forms of ideologies and symbolism available today that are more modern, have actual practical traction behind them, and so on. On top of that, this caliber of a person can invent his own ideology and symbolism and a lot of people will buy it.

So, does anyone seriously believe that a person with clear autistic tendencies (Asberger's syndrome by his own admission) is toying with Nazi salutes ?

I’m leaving my eyes and I believe the AI when it says that even the idea of someone extending their arm in that fashion for any purpose is exceedingly low let alone twice without intention. Don’t leave out that part of my post I’ll put it right back here for you.

Sometimes the truth just hurts. It is what it is. It was what it was. What I’m concerned about is the number of people that are willing to cave in to suggestions that are obviously absurd given the empirical information that we have. This is not a hard one.

Just adding the last bit in case you think I’m hiding something.

You are purposefully ignoring the nuance of what I just wrote. The gesture, TWICE, wasn't an accident. What it ended up looking like is. The main factor here, and you as a lawyer should understand this very well, is that we're not dealing with an average person, and average person standard doesn't apply. We are dealing with a person who is mentally impaired in a particular way and we have consistently observed that for years. He excels in technical fields, many business areas, but not in social aspects like most people you'd consider to be normal. His emotional expression is different from other people.

Your problem is that I am a lawyer and I’ve experienced human beings try to feed me all varieties of bullshit in all kinds of settings. Mostly ones where consequences are high and the incentive to misrepresent the truth is astronomical. Yet, my bullshit detector is undefeatable.

There are no mitigating factors there are no excuses. This is exactly what it appears to be. And anybody who believes otherwise it is a goddamn fool! Whether they’re fooling themselves or allowing someone to do it to them. It makes no difference the end result is the exact same.

So we're using AI as sources of truth now?
No just unencumbered reason. And diagnosing cancer. And folding proteins. And programming. And writing most of the posts that you see in social media. And drafting laws. And writing executive orders. And writing a significant amount of the content that you see on the Internet. And writing music. And doing art. And creating logos. And driving cars. And teaching cars to drive. And flying drones. And designing chips. And doing science. And research.

And … .

Just those things. Today. Ask again tomorrow.

In Engineering there is this famous expression: garbage in, garbage out. By asking "AI" a garbage question it's pretty easy to get a desired garbage answer.
Feel free to ask the question in any way you feel where you ignore the person who is at the center of this because you ask it that way, you’ll get an answer that ā€œthere’s lots of passion and different opinions on both sides.ā€ They are programmed to avoid the controversy. You won’t get the truth. Which is fine. Many people don’t want it.

Proceeds to accept any answer from ChatGPT as fact.
ChatGPT doesn’t know any facts. Try again. It has information. Feel free to dispute the information.

And more to the point remember the challenge that was issued was that I defy you to give me an explanation as to how somebody accidentally gave what in any overly generous explanation still very clearly looks like a Nazi salute - twice in a row.

Go ahead and offer a better explanation than ChatGPT has. You certainly don’t have as much information at your fingertips as it does but other than telling me what your belief system is I’m pretty sure you aren’t going to do better.

I don’t have a belief system informing me, nor does the AI. I just take things as they are and don’t try to make excuses and pretend things are ā€œthisā€ when they are in fact ā€œthat.ā€

Garbage in; garbage out? Sure! In this case, the gesture was the garbage!

Einstein said, reality may be an illusion, but it’s a very persistent one. Your argument is with reality. Maybe, Einstein.

Gosh, I wonder if he would be able to figure out what this was. ?
