I just installed v2025.26.7 on my 2019 Model 3 Intel Atom HW3 (M3) and my 2024 FS Cybertruck (CT) AMD RYZEN HW4 AWD - the results were shocking.
I initially started the software update with the CT. Then ~15-20 min later, my wife told me she wanted to practice her driving. So she pulled out her M3, and her vehicle connected to my CT’s Starlink. We drove around for 30+ minutes and to my surprise, her vehicle - although starting the download process much later - finished before mine. I was shocked. All this time I figured the Intel should be slower than the AMD - both at download/WiFi speeds and Read/Write speeds of the eMMC / SSD (or whatever they use, lol). Coping with this fact, I had to convince myself: Perhaps the CT downloads a larger and different ā€œversionā€ of software even though the nomenclature is the same.

The reason I find this fascinating is because this isn’t a 2-5 min difference, the older vehicle demolished the newer in terms of download and install performance.
Has anyone else done a head-to-head with their vehicles to compare?

IDK about the M3, but the last Cybertruck update was yuge. Many GBs.

Also, the CT is uniquely using Etherloop, and often an update means that all the various body controllers must be updated as well.

So the speed difference between models may not be due to MIPS, but to system complexity.

Unfortunately, it’s apples to oranges. My 17MS (MCU2 Intel) always takes longer than my 24CT. I believe it has to do with what you mentioned being of a different stack. So it’ll be different generally speaking.

I looked into this.

2025.26.7 on an intel with HW3 was around 5 GB
2025.26.7 on my CT was around 12 GB
2025.26.7 on my MS Ryzen with HW3 was 8 GB

These are all rounded up, but these stats come from my router. They absolutely appear to have different files they are sending different vehicles with these uploads.

both my HW3 vehicles got a 5GB update while we saw 12GB on the truck as well
I just wish Tesla would use better Wi-Fi antennas.
I had to drop the cars to my IoT 2.4GHz network because they kept dropping even though the access point is 15 feet from the center of the garage

Thank you for verifying. I'm very tempted to put my Starlink into bypass mode then attach a UX7 from Ubiquiti in my CT so I can track packet size and destination. I live for micromanaging network stats šŸ˜…

Split your Wi-Fi signals if you haven't done so already. I always have my SSIDs working on 2.4GHz and 5GHz exclusively. Also make sure the "transmit power" is on High on your router.
