Anyone else think the location of the wireless chargers in the CT is an engineering flaw? In South Florida it’s hard enough to keep a phone cool enough with even with some shade. The location of the chargers bakes the hell out of the phone and charging is consistently stopped from iPhone over heat warnings. Very jacked up design!

I don’t see how a software update is going to fix the location of the chargers that get baked in the sun but Tesla can do magical things with over the air updates!

The overheating seems to happen all around the US, even in cold climates which makes us believe it’s the energy output of the wireless charger. Software update could tone it down a bit. Try to charge your phone at night with AC on so car is cool. See if phone still gets hot. Interestingly, my daughter tried to charge her phone in rear seat with a usb-c cable and her phone also heated up. It could be that all the charging points in the car are simply too “strong” and need to be adjusted.

Plugging in and wireless charging are two very different things. When plugged in the phone only takes energy it needs, regardless of how much is available, which will warm it up, but it shouldn't get hot. When wireless charging in the truck it gets so hot my iPhone stops accepting charge due to overheating. I think this is what others are experiencing.

It's from the fast charging heat. Im sure they'll fix it in a software update. The chance of it overheating from the sun hitting the windshield through the glass to your cabin is small unless you left it in the car in super hot weather.

Wireless charging sucks in general across the board. Wish they just left those spots as phone holders with a wire pass through to plug in your phone. Not one car or wireless charging device I owned ever worked well. Wired will always be superior. Hope there is or will be a setting to turn it off in the CT.

This issue is also present in the original Model 3 Wireless Charging upgrade mats (the original model 3 did not come with wireless charging and you had to buy the charging mats separately). Once my iPhone stopped charging, I simply rotated my phone upside down, and it stopped charging. I doubt they will release an update to resolve the issue. Do something similar or place some cardboard or paper between your phone and the mat when you want to disable the wireless charging.

The manufacturer of the in-vehicle mats is different than the desktop charging mat because I don't have any issue with that one. It is extremely well made other than the flimsy rubber strips on the back.

I have a theory that the charging efficiency (and thus heat generated) varies with phone placement, because sometimes it charges ok. I've not been able to fine-tune the position, though. The iPhone does not provide an API to examine charge stats in real-time.

Just use the USB C instead of the magnetic charger. Or, use a mount.

It does get hot esp if the screen is on while charging
I also went to a case design that did not have any protection on back side of phone so it could more easily offload heat (case just wraps around sides to create an edge)

I don’t use iPhone cases and it still overheats quickly.
