Mine seems to be off when no rear passenger is detected.
Perhaps not...

I checked a few times today, the rear screen was always on. Even when I locked the rear screen from the main display, it still stayed on with the message "Screen Locked" lol.

I assume that no rear passenger was detected, since rear climate was off.

I noticed mine was very warm while on a road trip when I reclined to nap. There was clearly no one in the back seat as the seats were up. Seems like a waste of energy.

It would be nice if they could optimize to save some energy, but realistically its most likely such a negligible amount it wouldn't matter. The wireless phone charger is another item that is always warm and wasting energy.

I came across a Model 3 thread discussing the same and it suggested disconnecting all usb devices including the Sentry usb and either doing the double thumb wheel reboot a couple of times or a full shut down/restart from the service menu.

I did the double thumb reboot a couple of times and it seemed to work.

you did the double thumb reboot a couple of times and that kept the rear seat display off when no one is seated back there?

Correct. Sorry if not clear.

(There was an update a while back that said it was a new feature, but apparently it didn't activate if USB devices were connected. At least that's what seemed to be the case based on my results)

Mine is off when no one is back there. Yet on when seats are folded up. Real brilliance on that idea.

I saw a setting on the main screen the other day that had an option to turn the rear screen off. Can’t confirm now as I’m away from the truck.

We’re talking about the usb memory devise?
