On every truck I've owned, you can simply undo two cables and an electrical connection to be able to finagle the tailgate off. Typically takes me 5 ish minutes to remove. Is this similar to how the Cybertruck tailgate is?

I typically remove the tailgate on my GMC when I'm loaded by a forklift at the local building materials supply. It makes it easier for the 16-year-old forklift operator drop the pallet in place without sliding or dragging it and scratching the hell out of my bed or banging the mast into my tailgate. Not a make-or-break feature, but something I'd like to have.

Edit: Thanks for the replies. I know a removeable tailgate isn't a critical feature. It's far from make or break. If I'm honest, it's something I use maybe 2-3 times per a year. If it's not removeable, I'll figure out a way to load safely with the tailgate attached. At the end of the day, a truck is only as good as the person using it.

I'm gonna lean towards a no, since the tailgate houses a torsion bar, and it's affixed to the tailgate tower with a bolt.

At least not easily.

Everything is removable somehow.

It's clearly not just a drop in, but neither are any of the other manufacturer's gates with soft drops or complex features.

So I would say, 'yes, but...'

Definitely one of the pros/cons to the "future looking like the future". Trade offs are always going to be made and I agree with some of the posters above about the spring loaded gate prolly makes removal a more involved process than your above listed situation.

Not true. My 2021 Ford Super Duty has soft drop and is easily removable. I'm unsure about the new 2024 coming that has power close feature. I'll report back when I get it.

The interesting part is if you examine the tailgate support cables - they ARE removeable.
Which seems to imply the tailgate should be removeable.
I haven't tried yet though.

Wow, so it's TECHNICALLY removable - but a FAR more complicated process than standard pickup truck tailgates.
