Gang,

I finally got my vanity plate and I have a SpaceX license plate frame. When I tried to install it (the frame) the screw heads are too small and can fit through the openings of the frame.

is it just me or did Tesla use non-standard screws from what you’d typical find on an American car?

Any tips or tricks? I got the license plate itself installed, but I’d really like that frame up too.

I suppose I could use washers under the heads of the screws, but…

thoughts?

You may have the wrong screws; it's worked for quite a few other vehicles.

Nothing with this Cybertruck is standard.

When I changed my license plate, I noticed that too. They are just screws that go right into the plastic bumper. No threaded inserts like on a "standard" vehicle.

Bring one of the screws into Home Depot or hardware store and get a similar threaded screw with a larger head on it. Or get some washers and put it on the existing screws you have. Probaby want to paint them black though.

I used the screws come with the frame, they are fine.

Well they aren’t fine if you plan to use a license plate frame. They are too small and the screw heads can pass right through the frame holes.

Wait, do you mean you used standard screws that came with the frame itself? Did you have to drill out the holes larger to accommodate the standard screws?

Yeah, those screws didn't work for me either. Like @Brandon708, had to make a Home Depot run and get longer screws with a fat head.

@j37634 depending on how the license plate frames are made, some require more distance between the frame's screw opening to the vehicle.

For example: Tesla's plate mounting screws works with the frames I offer even the added plastic washer and cap to hide the screw however this is not the case when I originally tested the frames of various manufacturers. It's one of a few reasons why I chose the current manufacturer to avoid these extra end-user headaches.

FWIW it's a good opportunity to purchase some longer "anti-theft" screws ;) They come in black so it's easy to match. Here's one from Amazon but there are many others https://a.co/d/icGPDeH

The front plate wasn't an issue for me (I use Snap Plates to mount front Tesla plates). It was the rear plate mounting that was the issue. The plate mounting is too low (it's just barely above the bumper). I was unable to use my standard black frame without putting new holes in it, so I left it off for the time being and just mounted a clear plastic cover without the frame...
