I have noticed T-Mobile LTE coverage dead spots have been increasing lately. Even though I shiw 5G on my phone, the car will show no connection. Anybody else having the same issue or is it something I need service.

has anybody heard about the 5G upgrade becoming available anytime soon?

Well... I'm in a great T-Mobile area and I am definitely on AT&T with the CT. I know this because it has the same dead spots as my F350 that has AT&T connectivity.

So if we can choose it, I would certainly like to know how.

Not sure if service menu shows iccid from the SIM, but if you can find that:

For T-Mobile, the ICCID starts with 890126, while for AT&T, it starts with 890141

Also, i found this service manual on changing the SIM card. Suppose you could access and swap the SIM, I wonder if this would allow you to choose your data carrier.

https://service.tesla.com/docs/Mode...UID-EE65D39A-6887-4E62-A2DE-1C016E7BE77C.html (model y, unless they switched to e-sim)

My 2019 M3 gets way better coverage than my 2025 CT. Why is that?

I live in a dead zone for AT&T coverage, but one mile away, M3 is communicating fine. The CT displays: No connection for another mile.

Is the cellular antenna placement an issue?

The cellular antenna is embedded in the passenger side roof glass on the CT. I have seen some connectivity issues as well. I went into service mode and ran a diagnostic on the modem which made it reinitialize and that seemed to clear it up.

The answer is yes. (Both) From Grok:

Grok may not be right about that. I found some sources in Reddit that claimed that but it was due to someone seeing a Tesla_Mercury wifi at a Supercharging station that indicated T-Mobile. That could have been someone just naming their wifi Tesla and not actually a Tesla service. I know from 2015 when I first bought my Tesla it was AT&T. No where in Teslas documentation does it specify who their carrier partner is in the US. They do have multiple partners around the world and T-Mobile partners with Starlink for cellular from satellite and they mentioned Tesla could utilize that in the future for low bandwidth communication in remote areas. ChatGPT indicates that is even in testing now on a limited basis.

All Teslas still use 4G LTE. No word when the switch to 5G will be. It will require a module swap for the upgrade when it happens. The modem in the Cybertruck is on the passenger side in the headliner next to the antenna.
