Tesla fanboy here. I see the new Lucid Gravity SUV has a 123 kw battery pack, same as the CT, but a claimed range of 450 miles. I figure that’s a legit number based on their sedan history. I’ve always been disappointed with the 310 mile range of the CT. Why would their range be so much better?

No, I’m not a plant.
Yes, I know they lose money on every car.
Yes, I know they are low volume.

Tesla could have used a different battery or added more batteries to increase the range. They didn't feel that it was required.

Lucid had the first real 500 mile range vehicle and did it with more efficient motors and good aero. It's expensive and isn't selling well. Elon has, in the past, used this to justify that no one needs that much range.

Edit: The Lucid Air GT hit 513 miles at 70mph, that's wild.

What is the Lucid vehicle weight?

Well there goes that theory ;)

Yeah it would be interesting to know why the CT has so much less mileage if the battery is the same size. I was hanging my hat that weight would be a factor... but that doesn't seem to be it.

Weight only matters on acceleration, once at speed it’s aero and rolling resistance(unless going up hill). So lower profile stiffer tires can make a difference, but probably not 200 miles, so mostly aero.

I’ve heard Sandy Munro say Lucid has the most efficient motors, but 40% better seems unlikely. My drives are long and hilly and I want more range. The stated range of both vehicles will be way less for me. My wife has a Model Y now, so I know.

Rolling resistance is affected by weight though.

Right, but the right tires can mitigate this, trains have less rolling resistance than the a Civic(extreme example I know). On my Model S I would air up to 60PSI and get better range, at the loss of comfort.

The gravity is also much smaller and more aerodynamic as has been repeated multiple times.

Comparing the CT (a massive truck) to a aerodynamic minivan is apples to hand grenades....even if they have the same size "tank" in the battery.
