I don't agree.
Wouldn't you want to have a 1000 mi range and fast charge time from 20% to 90% for up to 10 min?
The best way if no charge needed! No wasting time on a charge, unlimited range. (Nuclear reactor in the bed? :) )
Yes, it would be better to have some better thing, but it's not a thing that's possible with any current tech.

I respect the 200 hp end to the 0-60 wars. With instant torque it would be plenty quick. I wonder what a tesla s long range with 4680s, a structural pack 200 hp and the super advanced tires could do range wize. ?

Yes, 1,000mi range and 10 mi charge time would be great but there are other specifications that need considering.

complete battery system is cells, casing, modules, pack, cooling/heating, controllers.

What is cost of complete battery system for operation in weather temps -20F to 120F?
$10,000 or $50,000 or $200,000?

How many cycles will it last?

How heavy is complete battery system?

How much room does it take up?

  • Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision EQXX, an electric concept car with 620-plus miles of range.
  • Its aerodynamic design and lightweight materials contribute to that efficiency, Mercedes says.
  • The EQXX previews things Mercedes could incorporate into future electric cars.
Mercedes-Benz took the wraps off of a striking electric concept car on Monday. Meet the Vision EQXX.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
You probably won't be able to buy a Mercedes exactly like the Vision EQXX anytime soon. But some of the advancements Mercedes developed here could make their way into your future electric Benz.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
If range anxiety is the fear of running out of energy in an electric car, Mercedes wants the EQXX to be something like a chill pill.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes built the EQXX to be its most efficient car, it said — one that demonstrates that range anxiety could become a thing of the past.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
The Vision EQXX should deliver at least 620 miles of driving range on a full battery, Mercedes says. That beats the rangiest electric car you can buy today (the $170,000 Lucid Air) by 100 miles.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
If Mercedes' claims are true, the EQXX would beat the longest-range Tesla by more than 200 miles.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
But Mercedes didn't just give the EQXX a gigantic battery pack and call it a day. It says it's engineered the EQXX to deliver more range using less energy.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes gave the EQXX a teardrop shape that lets it slip through the air even better than the EQS, the company's electric flagship. Mercedes says the EQXX is more aerodynamic than a football.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
The EQXX also gets special tires that cut down on rolling resistance ...

... and lightweight magnesium wheels.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes made it a point to cut weight wherever possible. It chopped out excess material and used 3D-printed parts.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
As a result, the EQXX weighs around 3,800 pounds, about a ton less than Mercedes' EQS sedan.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
The company also developed a new battery pack and drivetrain to optimize efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
Since the EQXX is geared more toward long road trips than track days, it makes relatively little power — just 200 horses.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
Solar panels integrated into the EQXX's roof can add up to 25 kilometers (about 15 miles) of range under ideal weather conditions, Mercedes says.

It wouldn't be a Benz if it didn't have a luxurious cabin.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
But the EQXX's interior, just like the rest of the car, is all about efficiency.

Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX.Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes filled the cabin with sustainable materials that it says lower the car's overall carbon footprint.

The door pulls are made from a vegan silk-like material, the company says.

The EQXX also sports vegan leathers made from mushrooms and cacti, according to Mercedes.

Some surfaces are made from recycled plastic bottles.

The Vision EQXX also offers a sneak peek at the future of Mercedes' in-car screens. The concept has a single massive display that stretches 47.5 inches across the dashboard.

We already knew Mercedes is getting serious about electric cars. The EQXX concept is yet another sign of what's to come in the automaker's battery-powered future.

It's not just a rendering. It apparently is a completely built prototype. It seems like lots of 3d printing for parts. Here's a video of a guy from Fully charged.

A concept car is what happens when you unleash a bunch of engineers on a stack of parts and they don’t have to worry about whether it can ever be manufactured or not. A neat million dollar toy car to trot out at a car show.

The original Chevy Volt was the quintessential concept car. Looks neat on paper but by the time they made it affordable to manufacture, nearly every interesting bit of tech was leached out of it and the result was so watered down it was quite underwhelming.

You forgot perhaps the most important: “Can we actually manufacture this in volume”.

You can do a lot with 3d printed parts which is not remotely scalable.

Not today, but eventually we will have Solid state batteries and it will become normal. Just need to wait a little bit. But I am pretty sure my kids will have all of it

Solid state batteries, just like cold fusion…. It’ll be ready in about 3-5 years, every year for the past 15 years or so. In 10 years it’ll still be almost ready for volume manufacturing.

Its one of the perpetual existential threats people claim will destroy Tesla’s competitive advantage on batteries.

Mmmhmm, every morning bagel's crumbs going down the cupholder grate.

Anyway, they did estimate a solar option for 15 miles a day, a little validation for us. But, do you really need 600+ miles in a sedan, or is a 30 min break after 7 hrs truly unreasonable. Hope they keep coming up with beautiful rims if they go belly up tho.

More range is nice.

Better handling and more efficiency is nice too. Depends a lot on how much you road trip.
