The roll out of the Model Y is happening in a much different way than every other model Tesla has delivered. Historically (from what I have read so correct me if I'm wrong), the order of delivery started with Tesla employees, those who already own a Tesla and then by region.
With the Y, I'm assuming the early pictures were employees who purchased. Shipments of vehicles are going out all over the country, suggesting the region aspect my very well be out the window. And while some of those vehicles may be going to existing Tesla owners, surely not all of them are. (It doesn't make sense to send a car carrier only half full!) It has been speculated that this is to try and ramp up the hype across the country, where people will suddenly be seeing many Model Y's on the road all at once, increasing the 'Wow' factor.
I have no knowledge as to if the CT is following the same delivery method, but I would assume that Tesla is closely watching how the Model Y is received and will tweak this method for the CT as it will create even more of a WOW factor. (Imagine seeing a car carrier going down the road with 5 or 6 CTs on it!! Its going to be badass!!)
Hopefully this helps clear up some of the comments going on about regional deliveries and also gives people hope they may get there vehicle just a litter sooner than they originally thought...whenever that may be!
