I feel you on this because I have experienced it. I’ve owned a new MX for over 6 months now and not having stalks is horrible. The yoke is whatever( I could drive with a triangle if I had to), but the worst part about the yoke is push buttons for the turn signals and a button for the horn. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been coming out of a parking lot and my yoke is upside down making it difficult to find and figure out which button I have to push to signal correctly because now everything is upside down. Most of the time I just say F it and don’t even signal these days unless I’m driving straight.

The horn placement can almost be dangerous. Not being able to honk to alert another driver because the button on the yoke is smaller than my pinky nail can be butterfly inducing and down right frustrating when you hit every button but the horn.

I’d 100% pay more to have stalks and the horn in the middle. I’m on my third Tesla and every new one I get feels like Tesla gives us the middle finger a little bit more.
The Subaru badge on my steering wheel is dented from me literally punching my horn… (i live in MA… we are famous for our driving) maybe the button will discourage this (i also have a motorcycle, the horn and signals are buttons on the handlebar.)

That's why I say it's weird. Because humans are sticks in the mud, we'll keep doing things the same old way. Whether that makes sense or not.
They could have been using paddles this whole time. The only reason snowmobiles do is because thermal gloves are slippery.

The fine motor control means a dial is a good solution; like why steering wheels are a good solution, giving us fine control when we need it for smooth motion.

Are there other solutions that are also good for other reasons? Sure.

I'm not so concerned with the trigger accelerator, I mostly wonder why the right hand still has two things to control, instead of delegating something to the left hand?

I want the stalks! I want the center horn!

However, the DeLorean horn is activated by a button at the end of the left stalk, and my only purchased-new car (Miata) used little buttons on the steering wheel. Somehow I've managed to survive driving both lol

Because stop is the opposite of go. You should never use the front brake and the accelerator at the same time. And when you do, you're barely touching the brake at all.

Most people have no idea how to use a turn signal anyway! Most seem to believe it should only be used once they begin their lane change which is so late it is absolutely useless anyway.

I'm hoping for a third party equipment company to create a signal stalk that can be programmed for whatever the use wants. Put one on the left to use to signal turns. Put one on the right to use as a shift lever. But, really depends on the steering column and the possibility for them to even be attached.

I hate the idea of no turn signal stalk as the software doesn't use turn signals properly either!

Looks like the next model 3 will have no stalks. Personally, I think this is the worst aspect of the new vehicles. I was hoping cybertruck wouldn't follow, but now that I see this, that hope is fading fast. Maybe we'll get lucky and the 3's sales will tank when they unveil this as people protest for stalks. Happened with the yoke, so I think there's a chance. This is really just a post to rant though. I absolutely love the stalks on my 3! I mean, even if there are buttons somewhere for selection, I'm going to have to find them with memory or feel instead of just hitting a f**** lever up or down.
I don’t have a problem with stalks being removed but what I have a HUGE problem with is capacitive/touch steering wheel “buttons”, they are total suckage, tactile/physical buttons are better to ensure there are no accidental presses of the wrong button and for feedback.

Button on the right thumb.

I don't use stalks on my Zero, cruise and a bunch of features aren't on stalks in my Mazda; so why would I care about using stalks on my truck?

-Crissa
If the Zero is a motorcycle, then that’s not an apt comparison as the position of the turn-signal buttons don’t change position in relation to the driver’s hands in a car/truck, with a motorcycle the hand placement on the handlebars always has the buttons/controls within reach, on a car/truck the steering wheel controls move based on the turning of the steering wheel and humans have not evolved to have hands/arms that can twist so that hand placement can remain affixed to a steering wheel when turning it.
