Saw this meantioned on ABC this morning by George Stephanopoulos. It's another FUD because reporting that the car was stuck at 83 isn't really true considering steering and brakes worked fine.

Now I want to report that my Toyota Tacoma once shut off about 1/2 miles from my house. It started right back up and was normal but I was going 40 miles per hr and it just shut off.

Yeah, this is the sort of crap that annoys me. I rank this story at a low probability of being a factual representation of the event-if it even happened. But, outlets just post it unvetted beyond some guy saying "Yup! Des wha' happ'n'd!".

And, when it's found to be untrue, no one will remove the article, edit it with an update, or post a new story about the findings. This story will just be left.

The Tesla's screen is independent of the controls. A common remedy for a misbehaving computer is to hold down both scroll wheels and force a reboot, with no impact on vehicle operation.

Obviously, nothing that requires the screen can be controlled, but the car will operate fine. I imagine this driver had the infotainment system crash and restart while driving, and thus was startled, but this seems like a non-story.

So? It becomes a normal far for 3 minutes while it resets.

Stories like this are why I have just come to ignore any MSM source discussing Tesla in any capacity.

Tesla Cybertruck National News oh-no-anyway
