Hey all.

Really interested in getting a Cybertruck to replace my RAM 2500, which is the two vehicle for our Airstream. I've test driven the Cybertruck and it really sold me on it. It's got truck chops but yet, it (almost) drives like my Model S. And while range will be the challenge, I'm willing to deal with it to do away with the poor handling, noise and size of an HD truck.

That said, I'm running into one little snag... My wife is absolutely opposed to the purchase. It's not about the money, the brand or EVs (we're already an EV household). No, it's really the look that's the issue for her, along with what people think of the truck.

So, owners out there. If you were in a situation similar to mine, how did you convince the significant other?

Thanks in advance for sharing pitch advice with me. ;-)
Honestly, you can live your life as you choose, or you can let others choose how you live it. If they don't like it, that is their prerogative. I don't like broccoli, but I don't care if others eat it. Live and let live...people spend way too much time worrying about the decision or opinions of others.

My wife was the same way. Even after I paid the reservation fee she was absolutely against it. Then things started to change. It took time and seeing that I didn’t care what anyone thought. She also made me promise she’d never have to drive it. No problemo there. As soon as I got it she flipped her attitude 180. She loves it and gets a kick out of all the attention. “Say hi to the people waving at you” she tells me now. That was her #2 issue, bringing attention to her. Turns out she likes it. Now she’s the first to tell friends and family about. Just keep telling her all the good things about it. Watch YouTube videos together. Take the focus away from the looks, which are amazing, by the way. I’d rather look like the future than the past.

This is a difficult situation. Have you looked at other options? It's easy to fixate on what you think is best for you, but when you shop around you may find something much better. Have you tried Tinder? eHarmony? I met my Cybertruck loving wife on Match.com, for example.
LOL…OH BOY..THAT IS SOME FUNNY SH*T! ???

My wife got caught up in the whole negative energy surrounding the truck. I think since then she has heard me explain to enough people that I dont care what sheep followers think. She now seems on board with the idea that her man sets trends and doesn’t follow them. Be a leader and most women respond positively to that. I mean J Depp wears eyeliner

I tell people that it attracts so much attention, it's helping me deal with my shyness!

Your wife thinks the truck is ugly. She says that because she is comparing the CT to other trucks. The CT is TRULY in a class of it's own. A new class of truck. 2nd argument which I also believe is true and has totally shut people down online and I'm person. Is the CT is a very masculine design. Many people lean towards a feminine design. And that's ok too. But me I prefer a super tough truck with unmatched utility and performance with a masculine appeal.

Enjoy your new CT!

Here's my pitch:

Ask her how much she would be willing to pay for this painting:

Tesla Cybertruck Need help! ;-) 1735501536139-si

If she says anything less than $200 million you can suggest her sense of aesthetics might not be finely honed enough to judge truck aesthetics. Because it recently sold for $300 million at auction. And if the two of you had to come to agreement on the aesthetics of a painting, you would have left at least $100 million on the table due to her lack of aesthetic sensibilities.

If that doesn't work, tell her if looks mattered, she never would have married you, and you would have missed out on all the joy you two have experienced.

I can totally relate to your situation—convincing a significant other about a vehicle purchase can be a delicate balancing act. Here's how I approached it when my partner had concerns:

  1. Emphasize Practicality and Utility: I highlighted how the Cybertruck fits our lifestyle better than a traditional HD truck. It's not just about being futuristic—it offers durability, off-road capability, towing power, and unique features like the lockable bed and air suspension. If you have specific use cases, like towing your Airstream, explain how it makes your life easier.
  2. Offer a Compromise on Appearance: The Cybertruck's looks can be polarizing, so I suggested subtle changes to make it more visually appealing. For example, vinyl wraps (even a matte or satin finish) or personalized touches like blackout trims can help soften the truck’s aggressive look. In my case, my partner warmed up to the idea after seeing mockups of how it could be customized.
  3. Address Perceptions: I reassured my partner that people's initial impressions of the Cybertruck are likely to change as more of them hit the road. EVs were once seen as unconventional, and now they're mainstream. Show her that it’s not just about standing out but also about adopting cutting-edge, sustainable tech.
  4. Plan for a "Trial Run": If possible, see if she’d be open to experiencing the Cybertruck beyond a test drive—maybe rent one or borrow from a friend to show her how it feels in daily life, including towing the Airstream.
  5. Be Open to Compromise: Ultimately, I made it clear that her comfort with the decision was as important as my excitement about the truck. Taking her concerns seriously and having an open dialogue worked wonders for us.
Hope this helps! Good luck, and I hope you’re cruising with your Airstream behind a Cybertruck soon. ?

Similar situation, mine didn't like the original look (rolling refrigerator) but once we had it wrapped, added the crossbars, and then we ceramic coated the black stainless steel textured wrap...she's onboard. So I suggest looking at different wraps as it either dulls or highlights the unique characteristics of the truck.

Wife was unhappy with the failed promise of the range and price. She would have never bought the truck (her words) but like many others on here she was very happy for me to get something I had been looking forward to. She still thinks Tesla lied to us about things but we are fortunate and can offered to pay for said lies :)
