I hear you, and I’ve been in a similar situation.

After renting a Cybertruck, my kids and I absolutely fell in love with it—it was easily the most exciting, best-driving vehicle I’d ever experienced. I placed my order in March and was all in. But then came the delivery delays… followed by the political backlash and public noise.

After three weeks of going back and forth, I decided to cancel. It wasn’t easy—I had to put ego and pride aside. But ultimately, I realized: if something that once brought joy now brings stress, judgment, or even hardship to your family, it’s just not worth carrying that energy.

You’ve already had the courage to speak up and question it. Trust that instinct. Salvage what you can, take the experience for what it was, and move forward with peace.

Wishing you clarity, Dad bro.

Why does your profile say you own a Cybertruck then?

I am in NY, it seems like things got crazy again here the last few weeks. Many people stay inside during the cold winter and are now emerging, so it has been bad. Multiple middle fingers, thumbs down, shouts, etc. every time I drive. Maybe when windows were closed I just didn't notice the hate, with people loudly and crazily flailing out their windows it is hard to miss. In the last week I had an older woman obstruct traffic by stopping her car to yell Sieg Heil at me while I was in a turning lane. Then just yesterday I had a woman film herself spitting on my truck in the attached video.

My family is always concerned I will be attacked and keep asking when I will get rid of the truck. My father is currently terminal with brain cancer and has cognition issues, it can be difficult explaining to him why people are screaming at him when I am trying to take him to doctor's appointments (his voice makes a cameo in the video, so happy to preserve!). But the truth is these monsters don't care, yelling at an old man with a terrible terminal disease makes them feel good. In the OP's case, yelling at his children makes them feel good. It's really sad and I can see why someone would want to sell.

I usually keep vehicles 3-6 years, selling now would have me in the worst spot to sell for depreciation. I'll keep riding it out.

Austin is probably not at the same level of Tesla hate as NYC , but I do experience these hate reactions a few times a week.

Consequently, I also went through the same thought process as you describe. My CT is at 14,000 miles.

As time passed and I observed my kids (12 and 14) witness these situations, I realized that they are more resilient and thoughtful than I gave them credit. They have seen even kids at their school who flip Tesla cars and say they hate Tesla but cannot explain why. They started questioning these unprovoked reactions and make their own conclusions about human nature.

I think it has become a good life lesson for the kids. There are ignorant people who choose not to think for themselves and follow the loudest FUD of the day. How much is their opinion worth to inform your actions? Should you change your behavior because of FUD or turn it into an opportunity?

Most recently, I have proudly witnessed my kids patiently educate their friends about the underappreciated and pioneering product that Teslas are. Sometimes offering them free FSD rides, with my support. It seems they feel fulfilled and energized by helping other kids overcome life noise. Building their character in the process.

Thinking of Selling My Cyberbeast – Need Some Advice

Hey everyone,

I’ve been a proud Cyberbeast owner since late August, and let me tell you—when I first got it, I absolutely loved it. Every time I got behind the wheel, it put a smile on my face. The performance, the design, the whole experience—it really lived up to the hype for me.

But lately, I’m struggling.

I commute into NYC from New Jersey for work, and the hate this truck gets here is honestly starting to wear me down. It’s not just dirty looks—I’ve had random people flip me off, walk up to my truck shouting at me, and just give off a ton of hostility. Normally, I’d brush it off, but my young kids are often in the car with me. Recently, they’ve started getting picked on at school because of it, and that’s where it crossed the line for me.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m seriously considering selling it. I still love the truck, but I don’t think I can enjoy it anymore under these circumstances.

Has anyone gone through something similar? Do you know if Tesla would buy back the truck? Mine’s a Cyberbeast with around 4,000 miles on it. I realize I’ll probably take a loss, but at this point, I’m looking for peace of mind.

Any advice or insight would mean a lot. Thanks in advance

If you really love the truck, and think its a long term vehicle for you, maybe consider leasing the cheapest model 3 you can find. Drive it for a while, and as things do, this will cool down. The cost of a model 3 lease over 3 years is likely to be far less than the loss of equity from the sale of this truck. Based on your usage of this truck since August, I think you wont have any issues with mileage.

I would definitely not take a loss on the truck for a few more months, if you can stomach it. If the robotaxi network goes live for Tesla owners, maybe you can put the truck to work, and it'll pay for its self. Cybertruck is perfectly suited to handling autonomous deliveries of goods, as well as people. Even if you don't choose to do that personally, the resale value will climb for people scouring the country for used Cybertrucks to put to work. If June 12 is a success, we could be 3 to 18 months away from this being a reality. I think very soon no one will ever need to trade in a Tesla and take depreciation again. I also think very soon every vehicle purchase will have potential to be a commercial vehicle purchase, and us common folks will have access to the business owner section 179 tax deduction.

I am sorry you're family is being exposed to all of this bullying. For a group of people that claim to be all about love, and against hate, it sure doesn't feel like they are projecting that, towards innocent people.
Do you really think the Robotaxi network is going to work in a lawless society? Who would want to rideshare in a self-driving Cybertruck when you know you'll have a target on your back - and they're doing this to robot cars?

Use this as an opportunity to talk to your children about being respectful to others, even when you disagree with them, and how some people, even grown-ups, never learned how to do so.

The fact of the matter is that people mostly get irate about things when they're insecure about who they are as a person. The Cybertruck threatens their world view, and their outbursts are a form of panic attack driven by insecurity. Teach your children well so that they won't grow up to become that type of person.

Ah sorry man. FYI, the Tesla trade ins for a really nice truck, maybe mileage of 1k a month/12k or so right now is about 30% depreciation or so. Pretty high for sure for 1-1.5 years for most of us.

I’ve been flipped off one time in the beast. But ironically today, I got flipped off driving by a Semi, in my son‘s Ford CMAX.?
I think people are just mad at the world.

I just got my CT Saturday. Absolutely loving it! I'm in Northern California and have had zero weird interactions after about 500 miles. Most people don't know what it is and are curious, and the rest are fans. I'm sure I've passed a hater or two on the road and didn't even notice. This truck is awesome...don't let anyone else change your opinion simply because they're uninformed.
Same in Texas. Almost everyone loves it. I bought my FCT almost 2 months ago at the apex of the trouble. Saw a guy at MD Anderson parking lot with one and got inspired. I had put a deposit on one almost 5 years ago and decided to pull the trigger. Love it.

I second that.
People are people. It’s not always about our CT, but the health/state of mind of that other individual. I have to remind myself of that every once and while.
