Because my interactions with people are, in part, shaped by how they feel about me.If you like the vehicle, why do you care what other people think?
If a person's first impression of me is what they see and they come to the conclusion that I must make good decisions in my life as evident in part by how I dress, act, and that I drive an iconic legend, they will be biased towards accepting my ideas and friendship.
If a person's first impression of me is that they see me driving a laughingstock, stupid vehicle that public opinion has long soured on, they are less likely to listen to what I say or accepting of my ideas and leery of making friends with the guy who drives "that".
It matters how I feel about my car but it also matters how I think others feel about it.
