Hello! I'm a writer working on a story for the New York Times about Tesla owners. I'm looking to speak with people who bought a Tesla because they admire Elon Musk or because they agree with his political views.

If you fit this description, and you are willing to speak with me on the record (i.e. I can use your name when I quote you in the article) please get in touch with me. My email address is [email protected].

Thank you for considering my request, and have a wonderful day.

Lol, no. Polar opposite of that. Tesla makes the the best EV’s. It’s no more complicated than that.

Totally understand. I've spoken to a bunch of people who bought Teslas even though they don't like Elon Musk, which is why I want to find people who feel the opposite way as well :)

Don't forget the 'Tesla Mission Statement' which been around longer than any US Political Party manifesto (what's that - right)

correct. Although I’m not sure that the mission remains the same. That said, I need to clarify: I said ā€œpolar oppositeā€ but like anybody Elon is complicated. I don’t do hero worship - ever. But there are many admirable attributes in this guy. Strengths also become weaknesses and even when they don’t become weaknesses they are a double-edged sword.

So, good with bad like all of us.

That was the rarity back in 2021. I bought a Model Y in 2021 and didn't care for "Lord Elon" and his magical fantasies of FSD. Every other owner prayed at the Church of Elon. These days.... shrug. I never understood the cult of Steve Jobs either... and yet I've owned an iPhone since 3GS.

No one bought a Cybertruck because of the CEO's political views. People buy products that offer them value, this has been well studied. A car or truck is the second most expensive purchase most consumers make (after a house) and they are not about to compromise on that based on the CEO's political views.

You are barking up the wrong tree and trying to push a false narrative. Yes, I know you only need to find two or three people to support your fantasy, but go write some real news for a change! You are the perfect example of why people don't trust the media anymore and why readership and viewership is cratering.

I think the OP is missing the point. No one buys a vehicle because they like the CEO's political views. How about the Toyoda family being against EV's? Or Mary Barra botching the massive lead GM had in EV's of literally decades? Not sure on her political leaning. Or BIll Ford's. How about whomever runs Hyundai, what are their political beliefs?

I think you should reconsider the premise for your "story". It's utterly nonsensical.

BTW, I'd be happy to speak on the record about Tesla and my vehicle ownership history with the marque. CEO beliefs don't factor into my decisions, but the company mission and taking steps to cut the massive carbon footprint of the petrochemical industry and global warming do matter to me....and my children...and everyone who comes after all of us.

I reserved my Cybertruck back in 2019 because it was the ugliest, coolest vehicle I had ever seen. As a lifelong Dodge Dually owner, I didn’t want another truck that looked like every other pickup on the road—and as a bit of a gadget geek, the Cybertruck felt perfect. My decision had nothing to do with EVs, Elon Musk (though I think he’s undeniably a genius), or even Tesla. I just wanted the Beast. Simple as that.

Now that Blitzen is part of the family, I can’t imagine owning any other vehicle. It came packed with features I hadn’t even imagined—like Steer-by-Wire and turning rear wheels—and thanks to Tesla’s OTA updates, it feels like I get a new vehicle every few weeks with even cooler capabilities. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d sit in the driver’s seat, sipping coffee, while my truck safely drives me around town without a touch of intervention.

These are magical times, driven not by personalities or politics, but by the sheer joy of pushing the boundaries of what’s possible—and not caring what anyone else thinks. Mission accomplished.
