Hi this is NJ specific.
I have my delivery scheduled for Wednesday. I provided all the information to my insurance company to add the truck to my existing insurance policy. They said they cannot give me insurance or proof of insurance until the day I pick it up. The SC is telling me they need the insurance before they will prep the vehicle. (what comes first the chicken or the egg).

Presumably I can get the insurance taken care of in the morning and take delivery in the afternoon which is fine for me, but the SC kind of complained to me because they said it takes a while to prep...

In any case, I thought I could get the insurance before hand, but AAA was adamant not until the day I take delivery. Anyone else run into this?

Go Progessive. Switch back to AAA if you desire.

If you have the VIN set the effective date a few days earlier. Many carriers can’t give a card for a future date. So add it today, get the card and send to Tesla. Yes, you technically pay for a few extra days of coverage - which ain’t cheap in NJ - but that’s what it is.

I had to change carrier as I had less than 30 days until renewal and Tesla wanted to see longer coverage in force, not sure why it mattered when paying cash. Anyway, carrier wouldn’t renew me early so I switched and showed a year of coverage. Weird stuff happens.

They should ask you for an effective start date and be able to provide you with a temporary proof of coverage while you wait for the cards to arrive.

You can also get policies same day if for some reason they wont allow you to set an effective start date.

Thanks everyone. I tried to get the insurance coverage and cover a couple days early but they would not allow that. I did end up with Progressive and they were half the price in any case. I still have all my other insurance through other Company, so I will figure out what I do for everything else in the future.

SC only needs your current insurance with your current car. If not they're doing it wrong.
