Please help! About five days ago I asked Tesla to convert my foundation series order to a regular all-wheel-drive cyber truck. That message was ignored and yesterday I was assigned a VIN.

Does anyone know what will happen if I do not accept the new “Non FSD conditions” and do not proceed with the delivery? (I apologize if this is already been answered, I searched these Forms and could not find an answer)
Now that I have a VIN, it sure is tempting to get a cybertruck in a week or two with a button click ?I just think it’s worth waiting a year or so to save over $20,000. With the slow ramp in December, I didn’t have a problem with the foundation series up charge, now that I’ve waited to May and they are ramping well over 1000 a weekit just doesn’t make sense to pay this up charge. Plus the charge isn’t even worth as much as we originally thought.

I would also totally purchase this vehicle and drive it for a few months, even with the hope of barely breaking even, or a few thousand $$ loss. That would be a great option if legally possible. I just can’t stomach the idea of intentionally blowing $20,000 :(

Thank you so much for your time thoughts and opinions :)

I am sure there are ways around the restrictions - where there is a will there’s a way type thing. Having said that these options are not different as you think. You can ignore the pick up which most likely is the same as cancelling - ie $1K gone. Or you buy it and flip it (immediately or a few months) both of which will likely blackball you on Tesla side ignoring the financial law suit potential. Either way the idea of $72k non FS is at risk. choose your poison I suppose but I’d stay on the grown up side. Own up to pulling that order trigger when not ready and lose the deposit. Or buy and enjoy the truck for the $20K premium for some time (or at least a year). Cheaper variants might be years away if at all. One thing is for sure. You will love the car.

When do you think the FS sales will end and become regular $79k AWD trucks??
You are definitely right, I will love the CT!! Thanks for the advice!

I don’t think anyone knows. Tesla won’t (can’t ? look up Osborne effect.) say. It will be a mix of demand and production ramp costs. The demand for any $100K+ car is a known quantity in the population. Elon himself said 100-200K / year. But we don’t know the true 2M backlog cancellation / pass rate so it’s all guesswork.

Another metric is the RN number invite rate. Since 12/8/23 until now they have gone through 1127-1131 I think. And I mean invites not deliveries. So 4 digits in 5 months. Of course the ramp is still in effect but I have friends who hold 1151. Another 20 digits. At current pace that’s like 20 months. Half say then best case 10 months if they double the rate which is their stated capacity in earnings reports.

Lastly we have almost no visibility into ramp costs. If I had to guess - a wild ass guess - I’d say FS would end in 1-2 years, end of 2025 or perhaps 2026. Will IRA even be around if the administration changes? Will you eventually get a $60K or $70K Cyber. Most likely. But it may feel like an eternity.

I don’t envy your position and wish you the best of luck

I momentarily considered skipping out on the FS when my VIN came up. They seem to give an easy out, the truck you ordered is not available. This is because the features you paid for are not ready. If you don't agree to the reduced feature set, that seems to be a Tesla problem, not a you problem.

I would maybe do two things, not approve AND tell them you aren't accepting the reduced features and you'll take an order when they are ready. This only would bite you if all the features are ready before FS is done. Or if the features aren't ready for 3 years.

Another option is to say you can't afford it and need more time. That seems to get you a six month delay, which will then be followed with a "matching VIN." If FS isn't available still in 6 months, does this give you a standard truck? I was wondering what happens to these people. FS likely won't be forever, at some point the delay seems to mean you'd get a standard truck.

Please note, this advice is untested and should be treated with skepticism!
